I LIVE IN THE TROPICS WITH VERY POWERFUL SUNLIGHT, YET THIS THING BARELY HALF CHARGES MY SAMSUNG GS3 (SMARTPHONE). I AM DISAPPOINTED. AND I CANNOT LEAVE IT OUT FOR THE FULL 8 HOURS IN THE SUN TO CHARGE SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THE INTERMITTENT HAWAIIAN SUN SHOWERS WE GET. LAME. JUST A TOY GIMMICK. IF YOU ARE RELYING ON THIS TO KEEP POWER IN A GPS OR SMARTPHONE OUT IN THE STICKS, YOU WILL BE LIMPING ON MINIMAL CHARGES DAILY, IF YOU ARE LUCKY.

Comments about Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit:

This is a great little solar panel and battery power pack. It works great for recharging phones, ipods, portable speakers, and any other small electronics. I was recently camping with this and used it to recharge my portable little speakers and phone. I've also tested the solar panel by taking the batteries out of my garmin 60CSx GPS and plugging it directly into the panel. It worked perfectly running directly off of the solar power. Its a great little solar panel and power pack to have with you. I've also taken just the power pack with me on flights, to keep my electronics charged. I would highly reccomend this product.

Comments about Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit:

I was excited to see this product, and still am positive about the idea of solar charging an AA battery pack so you can grab the AAs for a GPS or charge a phone off of them. However, this implementation is far from perfect. My unit never did charge the batteries from the solar panel. Sometimes the cable between the solar panels and the battery pack had to be adjusted. After 10 hours in full sun the charge was less than 50% according to the LED indicator.

On several ocassions, the LED blinked a rapid red signal that neither the documentation nor telephone tech support could identify. I then charged the batteries in my wall charger and found that they maxed at 450 to 550 mAH. This is a pretty low number. That's less than enelop AAA (triple As!).

The solar panels appear pretty fragile, too, and the fabric stitching around the panels just doesn't seem very robust. Sure wish this product performance was more reliable. A quick browse about the web shows lots of people have inconsistent results with the Goal Zero solar products.

Thank goodnes for easy returns at REI!

Comments about Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit:

Not sure what the last review is about but i've been using this guide 10 plus system for a few months leading up to my appalachian trail thru-hike laster this month ... it's worked in low light, cloudy skies and is blazing fast with perfect conditions .. it keeps my iphone 4S, batteries for the pack, headlamp, camara and mp3 player charged decently well i don't need to buy batteries along the way .. and the battery pack can be charged by wall socket or computer .. so if you don't have sun for a few days .. no problem, recharge with the battery pack till sun or next hostel. Like they recommend, let it sit in the sun for a few minutes before pluging in to let it "warm" up ... only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars, is i would like to see water plugs for the ports .. otherwise it's highly water resistant and durable as hell! Enjoy!

Their is a reason I am looking for a portable solar charger again. Sometimes it works and somethimes it doesn't. I even recived a new power pack and I still have the same issue. I am now just giving up on the whole series and looking for something better.

Do yourself a favor and move on to something else. You don't want to be in the field and have this thing not work.
