The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
I went to an REI store, tried a bunch of packs on, and found the Crestrail fit better and felt a lot more comfortable. I've never regretted my choice. The pack is great -- comfortable on the trail and plenty of room for what I need to carry. It would be a wonderful trekking pack.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
I used this pack for my travels in Southeast and East Asia. I heeded the advice of many travelers to pack light, and I had more than enough room before I set off for my trip (I was even able to fit in a small daypack). The best thing about this pack was that it was suitable for carry on, and so having to not worry about checked baggage made air travel that much easier.
This pack has plenty of straps to cinch the bag down to make it compact for those who use the entire volume. As other reviewers have stated, I can see why it would be difficult to take out a water bottle from either of the pockets with the pack on-you'd definitely need to take the pack off to grab your water bottle or have someone help get it for you.
While traveling, the pack was very comfortable and felt very light once the hip belts and shoulder straps were adjusted. Honestly, I am very happy with the size of this pack since I didn't feel too invasive while boarding the crowded subways in some of the Asian countries I travelled to.
All in all, this is a high quality pack from REI and I can see many future trips using this pack. I find it perfect for those traveling light for an extensive period and with perhaps enough room to fit in souvenirs.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
I went to REI intending to purchase an Osprey backpack. My sons have them, and they are fine products. But to my surprise, I found the Crestrail 48 fit me better and was more comfortable than comparable Osprey packs. So I bought the Crestrail and have been very happy with it. So far I've used it only for weekend trips, but this summer I will be using it on a weeklong trip -- cannot wait!
The Crestrail is very solid feeling and extremely comfortable on the trail. I have not yet tried to use it for one bag carry on air travel, but I think it would fit within the size limits as long as it is not overpacked.
My only suggestion is to offer it in one or two other colors. I don't love the color, but obviously that is a very minor issue.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
After travelling Europe for 3 months using a massive 82L (5000+ cu in) backpack, I decided that I needed to drastically downsize! I also wanted something that I could carry on a plane so I wouldn't have to check it and worry about losing it. Which happened with my departure to Europe. The bag showed up, but I didn't have it for almost 3 days. Thankfully I had my REI Flash 18 with me.
This pack is not advertised as a carry on, but it looked to be about the right size. And, if it's not overstuffed, it perfectly fits in the overhead bin. The straps made it easy to compress into a well shaped piece of 'luggage'. I reverse snapped the waist belt around the bag to give it a more compact feel.
It is super lightweight, highly adjustable, and easy to load and get to items inside. I used the water reservoir pocket for my laptop and it fit perfectly. The padding and ventilation is superb for distance usage. I easily packed it for a month long trip around the states.
I didn't have an issue using the water bottle pockets while the pack was on. But, I was using a regular water bottle that you can buy already filled with water and not one of the larger sized ones. It has left and right exits for your water hose and you can buy a hose clip to fit on the strap that keeps it in place. The waist belt has pockets as well. Which are extremely useful. I usually carry my small point & shoot camera in one and chapstick, coin, and other items in the other.
Overall, this backpack exceeded my expectations and am extremely happy not to be travelling with such a huge pack anymore!

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
Love this pack. I use it for 3-4 day trips on various sections of the AT and have even used it for 4-5 day travel trips. It's very comfortable and light, i can fully load it and be around 35lbs hiking on multi-day trips on the AT. I also remove the belt and use it for extended trips while traveling. It fits easily into the overhead compartments in the larger planes. I use compression and other storage sacks to organize all my clothes/equipment. My only complaint is the bottle pockets are hard to get into while the pack is on my back like another reviewer stated, I have to have someone else hand it to me or I must remove the pack. Its not a huge deal since I normally just drink water on a sitting break, I suspect more flexible human beings might find it easier. I'm 5-9 and 175.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
Tried in store and instantly fell in love with it. Ended up purchasing online with new member discount. Great bag for the price and the REI brand really is just as good as any name brand item. It was way better than a previous bag (Orizaba 3900) that I had purchased and returned.
There are a good number of pockets for storage and easy access. There is a good amount of padding and easily adjustable to fit your size. Able to store a lot of items in it and does not feel overwhelming. Quality material and water resistant. Used once for an overnight backpack in WV/VA and it rained for an entire day and all of my stuff stayed dry.
Nice touch with the hip belt pockets although they could be brought a little closer to the front. Nice side pockets for storing bottles and it also has hydration pack compatibility.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was super fast. No issues there.

Comments about REI Crestrail 48 Pack - Men's:
This pack was a great pack. Plenty of room for a multi-day hiking trip I just took. Very comfortable, and a very good fit (I'm 5'11", 170lbs). When sinched down, the pack snugged up and stayed in place. It was comfortable to carry and easily adjustable. Nice to access from the top, bottom, and front.
My one complaint was I needed a partner to get my water bottles out of the side pockets and to put them back in. If I were alone, I would have to remove my pack to get the water bottle (maybe I just need more practice).

I bought this pack in March 2012. I have used it on four day hikes. The bag has good stripes to cinch it down to a day pack size or expand for an over nighter. Highly adjustable, I have the med size and I am 506 150 lbs and it fits me perfect.
