We just purchased our second unit. We have used a Rocket for cross country trips, both summer and winter, for the past 4 years. It only takes minutes for one person to install, is noiseless while driving, has minimum effect on mileage and holds an amazingly large volume of stuff. All the locks and hinges still work perfectly and it still looks like new after thousands of miles on top of our van. The Rocket, which can be set up to open right or left, is narrow enough to place a second unit on top of our van and still have room to open. The Rocket is a well-designed and functional car top box without the price overkill reflected in many other similar units.

Bought this box to take skis and snowboards up to the mountains and for that it works well. It'll fit 4 snowboards (barely) and the price is right. Downsides? The box is very flexy which makes opening and closing it a pain as the flex messes up the alignment of the locking system so you've got to apply just the right pressure to get it to open, very frustrating. The Skybox 12 is only $50 more, has a little more space, better clamps and better construction; I returned this and bought the Skybox, it's [$] well spent.

Plenty of room for skis, snowboards and most of the gear that goes with them and/or camping gear, backpacks, dirty boots etc. Fits nicely on my Subaru Forester. It's great to be able to not track a ton of dirt and snow in my car every time I'm out in the mountains.
