The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
Nice flexibility to customize displays. Amazing battery life. I'm not a huge fan of their software, or the online version, but I haven't put much effort into accessing the raw data either.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
I purchased the Garmin Edge 500 bundle almost a year ago and have had no issues. It has proven to be an excellent training partner especially when used with Garmin Connect and/or Strava to compare your rides, runs, cross country skiing against others. The multiple and configurable screens are a nice touch while riding but you c an easily put too much information on one page resulting in a slightly hard to read display. Truth be told you probably can wait until you get home and download the data to your computer to dive into everything that was recorded on a given ride.. Some reviews mention issues with the GPS, I have had none. It works great for Road Biking, Mountain Biking and Cross Country Skiing. I have used the GPS in temperatures below freezing to over 100 with no issues.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
Bought the Garmin Edge 500 for bicycle training. At first, it worked flawlessly. I could measure my heart rate, cadence, speed and power output (with a borrowed (ANT+) power hub. But then, after good performance for 9-10 months, it started to be intermittent at measuring my heart rate and position. I returned it to REI. I love REI! The replacement is working flawlessly and I'm very happy with it. I suspect the earlier unit suffered an early death due to some component failure common to sophisticated electronic devices. Possibly the Garmin "burn in" testing failed to pick up the problem?
Service and delivery comments:
Excellent customer service! I can always depend on REI.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
I was very excited to purchase this as an upgrade to a $50 wireless Cat Eye. I was looking forward to using it to track my rides and for uploading to Strava.
I setup with HRM and cadence. Initially I was excited about the HRM, cadence, and altitude tracking but also didn't like that the unit seemed to struggle with average moving speed.
About one month in I had one of my strongest rides of the year including absolutely nailing some Strava segments but when I got home and tried to upload, it turned out my device had a faulty USB port. I tried everything including switching cables but after talking to a very mediocre customer service person at Garmin, I had to give up on the device.
Not was I was looking for from a nearly $400 purchase. I'm now using the Strava app on my andriod phone and loving it. And I'm more than happy to return to a cheap $50 bike computer that gives me accurate avg moving speed.
I'm very thankful that I bought at REI so I could get the full discount with an easy return. That service was excellent.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
After two months of using my Edge 500 and communicating with Garmin about it's function and lack of function, I am returning it to REI. The most troubling issue it that it does not perform the mapping, directional guidance function that the manual says it does (more on that in a moment). The most annoying trouble is that the heart rate monitor performs erratically.
First the positive. The data display on the Edge 500 is excellent. It is easy to choose what data to display, and there are many pages for displaying data. The speed and cadence sensors function well. The information on the grade of the road is sometimes wacky or doesn't register, but in general is reliable. It is simple to upload data from a ride onto the Garmin Connect website. The data displays there are informative and fun. Mapping out a course on Garmin Connect is easy to do and easy to download.
Using the Garmin heart rate premium monitor with the Edge 500 has been a constant frustration. During a ride of over 1 hour it invariably malfunctions . It usually under reports my heart rate but occasionally over reports the heart rate. I can be climbing a steep slope (I live in Summit Colorado) huffing and puffing along and suddenly my percent heart rate drops from 85 to 65. In a stiff breeze or a quick descent, my max heart rate will go up to 135% when I'm not even pedaling. I have communicated on numerous occasions with Garmin and followed all their advice: reposition the strap; re-wet the strap, change jerseys; warm up for 10 minutes first etc. but nothing consistently works. Prior to this I used a polar monitor for 30 years and never had a problem.
The coup de grace for the Edge 500 is it's inability to be used to follow courses forward or backwards using the features claimed in the manual. Unlike the Edge 800, the Edge 500 does not show actual street maps, but the manual claims that it does have a turn –by-turn feature for following courses. After many email communications with Garmin telling me what I need to do to create a course with such features, and my replies saying this doesn't work, I finally got a terse email saying that I would have to buy additional software to use the turn-by-turn feature. This is not what the manual or the first three email replies stated. Also, without going into detail, the visual course tract that the Edge 500 does display , and the information on how far off course one is, is not useful for finding one's way because one cannot control zoom at the same time one is following the course. Again, I established this only after many emails telling me how I could do such a thing.
So what use is the GPS feature? Well, on Garmin Connect the GPS data will generate a map of where you have gone, what the course elevation is etc. However, if you know the course you took, you can obtain the same information and more by using the superior free software MapMyRide.com . True you don't have the speed data cadence data etc without a computer, but the GPS isn't what enables one to obtain that data anyway.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
I have used this to track my commutes, weekend 50-100 mile rides, and interval training runs. Easy to use, to configure, and to upload to strava.
It can sometimes be slow to get a sat signal in certain parts of the city, but fast everywhere else. Battery hasn't been a problem at all, yet.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Wireless Bike Computer:
The Garmin Edge 500 bundle is superb. I know more than ever what every analysis, chart or average that could possibly exist. It is great information to tweak performance or rate ones self with peers. That stated, a seasoned veteran would probably save some bucks and skip the cadence and wheel pickup. Also, it has an Uber comfy HR strap and I have not had any ghost-reads from pack riding.
Service and delivery comments:
REI saved the day! When I picked up the bundled package, I charged it overnight and did the requested update, but it didn't make it. Garmin is closed on the weekend so my REI friend for life did a great exchange quickly and I was up an riding in no time. 110% satisfied, stuff happens, but it's how it is handled that keeps me coming back!
