Just bought this bike a few weeks ago. I started short distance to commute. Now I am going 7.2 mile one way each day weather permits. The bike does not have a fancy shape which is a plus considering the reduced chance of getting stolen. Yet it is quite light weight. I rode it on bike path last weekend and I could reach quite high speed with it. Acceleration is very good. The only complain is that the brakes sometimes touch the wheels a bit. I can hear the noise occasionally. It could be that the bike shop staff is waiting for me to come back for the first tuneup. I guess this could be his plan. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this bike.

Leave your "real" bike at home and scoot around town on this. It gives me piece of mind and I really don't feel like I sacrifice a whole lot when I do. This thing really moves and the shifting is top notch considering what you pay. Other bikes (1) road: $3500 (2) MTB $2900...... Fenders and racks are already there. Bought a $50 pannier at the same time and do my shopping and dropping with my new toy. Hope you like it as much as I do.

So overall the bike is actually not that bad. Super cheap parts so if you plan on actually needing to ride it regularly I'd suggest upgrading right away.
I am happy that there are the fenders, cheap or not fenders rock.
Daily use made me need to replace brakes in two months.
The frame is ok so long as everything else works.

I have several bikes (road, mountain and commuter), and my previous commuter bike was wearing out (over 20,000 miles!). It was great to find a resonably priced bike that had fenders and a rack included, so I didn't have to do much to outfit it for commuting. It is lightweight considering the components, and is responsive. I just wish REI had a service policy I could purchase with the bike.

I love this bike! It has a solid feel and is very smooth. The handling was also a pleasant surprise - it just goes where you want and can make quick maneuvers. You can get going pretty fast on this thing too. The only complaints I have are that the fenders are flimsy plastic and the gear changes are not very precise. But these are really minor issues especially considering the price. One other thing: I got the small whose frame actually looks more like the Woman's version. I don't really mind, but was surprised when I saw it in person for the first time.

I plan on using the Diamondback Insight RS Commuter Bike for trips from the RV campsite to the campground store and for pleasure rides here in town. The commuter bike has fenders with mud flaps and a rack. I wish bikes came with kick stands.
