Novara Express Bike - 2014is rated4.2308out of5by13.
Rated5out of5byVolkskrantfromSolid bike for the moneyI've had my Express for almost 2 years and have about 2500 miles on it, including two RAGBRAIs. It has held up very well, with just routine maintenance. I've had a few flats, but none since I started using thorn-resistant tubes. Unlike some others, I haven't had any complaints about the seat, and I've done my share of 70-80 mile days on it. Great value for the money (my 5-star rating is based on quality/cost). I have 6 bikes, but this is my go-to for most rides.

Rated4out of5by62PercentWaterfromNice bike but change the slicks out asapGreat bike all around. I ride 3K+ plus commuting miles per year and this was purchased last May. I have had a flat on each tire at least four times each. The tire compound is way too soft for Chicago. Swap out the tires and you are golden.

Rated4out of5byjdb1eekefromGreat All Around BikeI've accumulated four bikes over the years, but I wanted a "flat bar road bike" that could also "get up the mountain." I went to five local bike shops and no one could give me what I wanted. I liked the Novara Express but the gearing wasn't low enough for me. Your staff person adopted a "can do" attitude and after he looked up a few things and we decided to swap out the 28 tooth cassette for one with 34 and give me a longer chain. This brought my gear ratio down from .929 to .765. Just what I needed. The bike was ready to be picked up before the promised date, and I even got some credit for the original cassette and chain. First time I rode it, I went right up the mountain. How good is that?

Rated5out of5byBay Area RiderfromGreat Road BikeI have had this bike for 6 months now and I have 600 miles covered on it. This is my 2nd bike that I only use on the weekends, while my other bike I leave at work for lunch time rides. I love the way this bike handles corners and allows smooth transitions. The gearing is very suitible for the type of riding that I do. Hill climbing is perfect for me. I always find a good gear to allow me to climb hills smoothly. I like the wheel width for paved trails and road riding I do. I have not had any flats and I feel the tire/wheel combo is a good compromise between speed and durability. I have added the ussual stuff to the bike; Topeak medium wedge saddle bag, Wireless CATEYE, bottle bracket, Rapid2 tail light, Incredibell... The bike is proving to be very suitible for my rides and I look forward to riding every time. I you think you would like a flat bar road bike, don't hesitate, give the express a test ride. You should put it in the mix before you make a purchase.

Rated4out of5bySAPA GuyfromExcellent BikeI have had the Novara Express for over a year and have over 6,000 miles on it. This is a bike that makes cycling fun. The geometry is stable and puts your pedal stroke moving you forward. While the original tires were not good at all, flats on each ride until I replaced them, that's the only complaint I can think of. Even with this many miles I have never had to true the wheels. They have stayed straight and true from day one, and I'm a Clydesdale. Amazing!
I feel very secure and comfortable riding this bike. Even at speeds over 50 mph, obviously downhill, it is stable and smooth. The handlebar gives you plenty of different hand positions which adds to the comfort. Even replacing the 28 mm tires with 23 mm ones the ride is smooth and reliable.
The gears give you plenty of options for climbing even the steepest ascents and zipping back down under power. The frame and wheelbase are solid which adds to the confidence you will feel with this bike.
I recommend this bike highly.

Rated4out of5bysandiegofromFun Bike and ResponsiveHad the Novara Express for a few months now. Using it to get some non-impact type exercise after some knee issues and to replace my usual running for a while. This is my first thin-wheeled road type bike. Enjoying hitting the local hills to crank out an aerobic workout - let's me climb hills not feasible on my other fatter tire, heavier bikes. Gearing is easy to use - for a novice like me. Threw a rack and couple of removable paniers on it, and occasionaly use it for picking up groceries too.

Rated4out of5byNot enough timefromLove this bikeThis is a truly fun bike to ride, and I'm glad I got it. I was looking for something that would be fast, fun, easier to climb hills, but something more upright than a traditional road bike. I'm middle aged and frequently ride with my kids (some of whom are slow and need to be watched) but I also wanted something faster to ride by myself for longer distances. I test rode a large number of bikes (Giant Escape, Specialized Sirrus, Novara Express, Giant Defy, Trek Madone, Trek FX, Specialized Roubaix), in various trims. I think I went a little overboard in the search, but it wasn't possible to get what I needed out of one bike. I really enjoyed the Express and bought it right after the test ride after receiving assurances I could return it if I kept in good shape without too many miles. I never found anything so reasonable I enjoyed so well, so I kept it and haven't looked back. Since it was well within the budget I set, I turned it into a perfect purchase by buying a Townie for shorter rides with my kids or pulling a trailer. Between the two, I feel like I have two excellent bikes at reasonable prices that cover a huge range of riding styles. While I didn't initially value the bar ends or toe clips on the Express, I found them to be very useful. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Rated4out of5byJoe SfromVery solid, comfortable (sans seat)Jack of all trades, but perhaps a master of none. The bike is a wonderful upgrade from my last ride, an outdated mountain bike, and it has made my exercising/training more productive and enjoyable. It has been awhile (20+ years) since I have ridden a quality road bike so I am sure there are faster more responsive rides out there; but this is a versatile and fun machine and a great price. I have full trust in the quality as expect to be riding it for years.
