One of the main reasons I bought THREE of these tents for my troop was that I got a great deal and according to the picture the pole set-up was clip only. This is not the case at all. There are sleeves at the top. Even on the box the picture is not accurate. I wanted something easy for our new adventurers. I did keep the tents because I got such a great deal at the time and I'm sure the kids will grow to get better at tent set-up.
The first time we used these specific tents we set them up in my den (just 2) and discovered they are quite roomy and have great head space. I can stand up in it! They fit 6 kids great. Adults might be a tighter squeeze, but this is great for us now and I feel strongly about buying from REI, so was glad to find something affordable from REI-Outlet for our troop.

Easy to set up. Good ventilation. No leak or seam problems. Lightweight you "could" backpack it. Zippers tangle free and poles are strong and light. Good quality tent.

I had a back injury, so needed a replacement tent that I could just walk into - no more crawling in and out of tents for me. So this tent was intended to replace my beloved and well-used Kelty Gunnison 4 tent which had housed my family of 3. I wanted something with a simple two pole set-up that I put up by myself.
Please note that this tent is the older model of the Grand Mesa with the pole sleeves at the top - it unfortunately is not the all-clip system as shown in the REI illustration.
The first thing I noticed about the Grand Mesa 6 is that it is HEAVY! The weight comes from the very beefy aluminum tent poles - they are rigid and fat. These are the heaviest and longest poles I have ever dealt with, but it was still fairly easy to set up the tent - you need room to feed those long poles through the pole sleeves. The pre-bent poles really help in getting the pole ends into their grommets.
No bells and whisltes in this tent but you get a lot of headroom and spaciousness. Only one doot and vestibule, but there is more than ample room for 4 people and equipment.
So it is a keeper so far - haven't camped with it yet. The hard part is finidng a footprint since this is a discontinued tent.

Great product, wish it was cheaper to justify having a couple more. Held up well in heavy wind on Pismo Beach, Ca. Found If u left the rain fly down kept tent warmer(dont set up the support strings) Very sturdy, quick set up ( have my 11yr setin up while I get other things set up).

My husband bought this tent as a Christmas gift for the family. We have used it twice and are pleased with it. It is super easy to set up and took all of 5 minutes to do so. I do wish it had an extra piece of material for a mat to step on before entering the tent. We forgot our tarp on our second trip and when we woke up, the air mattress had condensation on the bottom of it. Overall, this is a good tent and we are very happy with it.
