Ready to ride, our Novara Duster 20 in. 6-speed boys' bike boasts a suspension fork and 6 easy-shifting gears for riders looking to broaden their 2-wheeled horizons.

  • Nimble 6061 aluminum frame is easy to manage and the SR Suntour XCT Junior suspension fork offers 40mm of travel to soak up bumps for enhanced control
  • 6-speed drivetrain is controlled with a single, intuitively easy to use Shimano Revo twist shifter; a flick of the wrist changes gears for easy pedaling
  • Hand-operated, linear-pull brakes provide responsive braking power
  • All-terrain tires are mounted on sturdy rims for excellent performance on and off the road
  • Front down tube deflector guards against flying mud
  • Sturdy chainring guard helps keep clothes from getting grease marks or stuck under the chain
  • Kickstand lets a boy prop the bike up when done riding or stopping for the ice cream truck
  • Specs on our Novara Duster 20 in. 6-speed boys'' bike are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

      Comments about Novara Duster 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:

Bought this bike for my 6 yr old who was ready to graduate from a coaster-brake bike. It has so far proven to be very durable as my son has put a number of miles on it riding up and down our hill. Having a geared bike really made his riding experience much more enjoyable given all the hills where we live. He has taken it on dirt trails and the bike performs quite well. The bike is overpriced like everything at REI, but given the right sale this is a great buy.

        Comments about Novara Duster 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:

This is my 7 year old son's first bike with gears and handbrakes. He has broken it in on bike paths, but it will be used on some off-road paths as soon as he is ready. Well built and not as heavy as many bikes with comparable prices. My only wish is that handbrakes fit a small kids hands better (closer to grip). Other than that it is a well built bike.

            Comments about Novara Duster 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:

Got this for my boy's 6th birthday. He was fired up about the 6 speed gears and the front suspension. About 15 minutes into his ride around the cul de sac, he stopped and just got off. I walked over to the bike and noticed that the handle bar became disconnected from the front wheel. No matter how tight I tightened the adjustable handlebar with the allenwrench, it could not remain aligned with the wheel. Very disappointed with it and am hoping is an isolated incident. Will update when he tries out the replacement.

            Comments about Novara Duster 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:

We use it for the concrete park road and the paths and trails next to lake, which are rather difficult. My son had a 16'' bike before with no gears and no shoks and that lasted until he was 5 1/2 but now he is so advanced on the bike that I got him a MTB Mountainbike and this is the only one that is light enough for that purpose 25 pounds. He has a hard time shifting gears, because turning the dial takes a lot of force... he could do it a view times now but he has to really twist himself to get the right leverage.... a different shifter technology would help there....

              Comments about Novara Duster 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:

My son who is 6 and 1/2 loves the bike. Larger wheels than his 16", gears and hand brakes. Big step up, but he maxed out his coaster brake, single speed 16" bike.

The hand brakes he easily adjusted to and are very easy to A) reach and B) squeeze for him. The bike is solid and smooth, and pretty light as well. he really moves a lot faster now compared to his prior bike. I'm definitely telling him to slow down (this is a new speed & velocity for him).

The gears are nice to have, but since he is so young, we stop and I help him change the gears. Even when he tries with 2 hands it is still difficult for him to shift. More importantly, he is learning what gears are and how to use them and is starting to grasp the concept.

Overall, we are new to this bike, but ride a lot for his little age. Very happy so far and worth the money in my opinion since he'll grow into it for a couple maybe 3 years.
