Comments about OllyDog Mt. Tam Hands-Free Dog Leash:
We bought this leash to use when jogging with our German Shepherd. First off, let me say that the leash doesn't do the training for you - if your dog can't walk/run at your side on a LOOSE leash without pulling ahead, this hands-free leash is probably not going to work for you. We've worked hard on our dog's leash manners and so transitioning to the hands-free leash was pretty straightforward, though we still had to be careful vigilant to avoid problems with her dashing after squirrels or veering towards approaching dogs at first. We (and she) have got the hang of it now, and never go on a run without it!
The OllyDog leash appears to be very well made and should last a long time. I love the stretchy section, which makes it more forgiving when your dog has to scoot out around a puddle or stops fast to pee (which ours has a tendency to do mid-run). The belt fits as snugly as you want it to and stays in place nicely.
I also really like the short handle, which is a comfortable height for me to hold while walking along if I need to keep her close. On a smaller dog, this loop might be too short/low to the ground to be very comfortable to use.
My main complaint is that the leash is VERY long. We have it adjusted as short as it goes, but it still nearly drags on the ground if she is walking right next to me. I like that it is adjustable; I just wish it could be adjusted shorter! Or, they could just make it with a clip at the top of the bungee, so you could affix it to your belt at that point if you don't need the extra length (this is something we could add ourselves, I guess). Unless you are very tall or you're running in a quiet area, the long length just isn't very practical - we live in a busy neighborhood with lots of other dogs and walkers on the path, so I find myself frequently picking up the leash to keep her close to me.
Although we bought it primarily for running, I think it will also be useful for hiking.

Comments about OllyDog Mt. Tam Hands-Free Dog Leash:
I use this on day hikes with my 60 lb boxer and it works great. She stays really close to me, so the area between the buckle at my hip and the bungee is a bit too long. I usually end up holding it so the bungee doesn't get tangled in her feet.
The bungee is long enough to allow her to "do her business" (and me, too, when needed) but also gently corrects her with a slight tug if she stops to sniff around when I'm still moving.
Love this product, highly recommend it and I use it on every hike!

Comments about OllyDog Mt. Tam Hands-Free Dog Leash:
I could not wait to get a hands free leash for running with my dog. This leash had great reviews but it did not meet my expectations. The waist attachment should have some sort of spandex element. The nylon of the leash caused a lot of shifting and slipping against my clothing. The leash is far too long - unless you weight 350 lbs and your dog is going to be 7 feet in front of you. My dog runs right by my side and the leash was hitting her or getting caught up in her leg during the run. After several tries we have given up all together and we will be returning this product.

Comments about OllyDog Mt. Tam Hands-Free Dog Leash:
I love this leash. I took my lab on a run yesterday and she did great. I wore the leash around my waist and my dog who likes to pull pulled a little but responded very well to my body cues. Better than she ever did on a normal leash. If we are running and she stops to pee (she does this alot), the shock absorption of the leash prevents me from dislocating my shoulder as I kept going accidentally. In closer traffic areas where I need her to be close by my side and listen to actual vocal commands the short handle attachment is great and the perfect lenght for us. A great leash. I can't wait to try it our on hiking trails and camping trips this summer

This leash is exactly what I was looking for. I use it for running and hiking. The shock absorber does help but with a strong dog you still get pulled on. On one hike my Aussie was very eager and I likened the pulling to having a nice lumbar support - just be careful going downhill!

Works great, seems well made and durable. My dog stays close so it is a little on the long side, but I will fix that. Great product
