Comments about REI eCycle Lunch Container - Large:
Love this little container. The only reason I gave it only 4 stars was that one of the lid flaps broke. I had it in the refrigerator and it formed a vacuum. When I tried to pull the top off with a flap it broke the tab. I really like this item and will have it replaced, being more careful not to pull on the flap when it's just out of the fridge. Use it for bringing a ski lunch. Keeps food from getting squished during wipeouts.

Comments about REI eCycle Lunch Container - Large:
This review includes this product and other ecycle products, which I also use. I recommend it highly. I take my lunch every day and have looked at or used almost every other lunch storage device on the market. This one is the best. It is durable, does not leak, closes easily, is the right size. It works just great for me, but see comments below about closing. It has actual hinged closures that I doubt will ever break, even afer repeated use over several years. Other lunch storage products have thin plastic "hinges" that flex repeatedly and have limited life expectancy. Also, it is easy to clean and dries readily in the dishwasher. I have used refrigerator dishes, but all the folds prevent them from drying in the dishwasher. They have to be hand dried, but this product, along with other ecycle lunch stuff, does not. This product is very competitively priced, so any decision about whether to buy this product does not have to include consideration of price. It is compeletely water tight and leakproof, so it is great as a lunch box in the rain or on the river, as well as in the office. You can take it anywhere. It is also the right size for me. Along with other ecycle products, I get just the right combination of sizes for the lunch I eat (sandwich, snacks, dried fruit and nuts, etc.) Closing it can be a bit tricky. However, it closes easily if you make sure the lid and bottom are aligned, then press down on the closure flaps from the top. Trying to push in from the side does not work as well for me. Simply grip the thing in your hand and press on the flaps from the top with your thumbs and from the bottom with your fingers. It then snaps shut easily. Note to REI: the REI video should demonstrate this. Just a final note: according to one reviewer the bottom hooks to the top. The bottom fits with the top, but does not actually attach. Just a point.

Comments about REI eCycle Lunch Container - Large:
I have tried every conceivable container for lunches, from zip top backs, paper bags, plastic bags, Tupperware, Gladware, you name it. I bought this container because it looked rugged, and that is exactly the results I've gotten.
I make up 4 containers a week with salads and various lunches. Food stays fresh, no spills, and no stains or smells. Pretty easy to clean. The top not being microwave safe is a little annoying, but not a serious deal.
I recently bought another one so that I have one for every day of the work week. The new lids have 4 snap closures rather than 2. No trouble with the 2 closures, so I'm not sure why the additional ones. The base appears to be the same.

Comments about REI eCycle Lunch Container - Large:
I use this container daily for holding my lunch during my work day as a construction inspector. It has lots of good characteristics for the outdoor job environment: compact form makes it easy to carry around; secure lid that doesn't leak; easy to clean; retains food temperature hot or cold. And of course, it's durable and rugged -- you can toss this container around like a football and you don't have to worry about your food spilling… not that you should try using it for that purpose. I just have lots of confidence in it.
The lid fits on the bottom of the container, a convenience that helps prevent you losing the lid while you're eating. There aren't too many hard to reach crevices on this thing, which makes it easy to clean. And, unlike tuppeware, the lid doesn't flex and eventually wear out. I primarily use a 10oz and 24oz for my work day lunches. Two 10oz containers set side-by-side takes as much space as a 24oz container. BTW, the silhouette of trees painted on the lid rubs off after 2 weeks.
