This is a great tail light for solo night riding/commutes. It is on the verge of annoying bright. If you ride in a group, this light is too bright and will annoy other riders. Use the flash mode for signifigantly improved battery life and visibility.

I have bought 3 of these now and love them possibly the best light for the money, with a daily commute of 20 miles round trip I know cars can see me in the morning. I also love that the rear clip is replaceable unlike some others that I have broken

Like the other reviews I did have a problem too with it shutting off. I've been using it since the spring 2011. I run with recharagbles in it.Its been good for me I run with the super flash too. I run with two lites in the back. In mine if it turns off i'll have the other one. It only turns off if it low batt. I recharge and its fine.

Like with other reviewers, this light has a life of its own. My 14 mile commute is pretty bumpy, and I was finding this light spontaneously switched off several times per commute. Not safe at all! Finally, last week I have arrived home to find only the bracket present on the bike, the main part got dislodged and lost somewhere along the commute.
When it worked, it was nice and bright. But this is useless when you cannot rely on it staying on throughout your ride.

I initially had the same reliability problems with this light that was mentioned by a number of reviewers; the light would shut off unpredictably, leaving me dangerously exposed while commuting in the dark.
I called Planet bike and they happily exchanged the defective light at no charge to me. The good news: The new light works flawlessly!
This light has now replaced a $180 rear light that I purchased just a few years ago - it's nearly as bright and is much easier to use. It really offers an exceptional value for the price.
Planet Bike has turned this skeptic into a very satisfied customer.

I read the reviews here and thought the light turning off automatically was probably something that just happened to a few people and decided to buy one anyway. Well, just like the others, mine turns off on it's own. It's a very nice light but is not reliable at all. I've tried fresh batteries but that hasn't helped. Another rider I rode with last week had the same problem with his.

I bought this light in the store because its flash mode seemed to provide more visibility than more expensive models. This light has great visibility and worked for about a month before I noticed a troubling design flaw.
When I arrived home from my commute one night, I noticed that the light had turned off at some point during my ride. This behavior has gotten progressively worse, and I've noticed that the light turns itself off whenever I ride over a bump in the road. I will be returning this light immediately.

I have a few PB lights, this one, the stealth half watt tail light on another bike, and one of the blaze head lights. Love their stuff, no problems and does what its suppose to. Straight forward flash with random pops on the bigger red light, or your standard continuous illumination.

I have had the same issues listed here by others: the light will turn off on every bump. Jump a curb, its off. Hit a piece of gravel its off. Cannot be used for night cycling safely. Great thing about REI is the gave me full refund no question asked!
