The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
I have been using the 210 for roughly a month both indoors and out. Needed a watch based GPS that included a heart rate monitor - so far so good. HR montior syncs a lot better than my old polar. Battery life is solid, have also been wearing it as a day to day watch.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
I was using a Garmin Forerunner 305 for a few years before it finally died (battery, sound issues). So I picked up this 210 with high hopes, and its ability to be worn as a casual watch was appealing too. Unfortunately, for me it was a disappointment. As an avid runner, I rely on data throughout my run, and the 210's display is just too small to be useful to me, or to be easily readible. And the charging cable attachment method is indeed sloppy. Thanks to REI's outstanding return policy, I returned it after a month of use. Fortunately for me, my brother gave me his Forerunner 305, and I'm happy again. I wish Garmin would make a truly worthy successor to the 305.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
I've had 3 of these watches in the past 2 years which is absolutely ridiculous! My first one experienced the HR monitor failure issue other users have mentioned -- this was within about the first 6 months of use. The second watch lasted maybe another 6 months -- that one must have had a software issue because it flat out blank screened on me. I just returned my third one today after about a year because again, the screen went totally blank and the watch didn't work.
I have found this model to be too unreliable and upgraded to the FR610 model and will be giving that a try.
In terms of when the watch is actually functioning properly, it is a great watch. Very accurate regarding measuring your distance which is probably the most important aspect for me since I'm using it on runs.
The signal finding was a bit slow when I went out on my driveway, but worked well inside the house which I found odd. The recharging clip is a rather poor design -- you tend to have to fiddle with it before it makes good contact with the metal circles on the back of the watch. I had issues when it came to connecting the watch and then trying to upload things to my Mac -- usually it was issues with the clip and seating the pins correctly to make good contact. The watch is a bit on the big side as well for me (I'm 5'0" with small wrists), but I've gotten used to it.
Like one of the other reviewers said, I wish there were a better competitor in this market so that Garmin would up their game and improve their watches more. Unfortunately, when it comes down to distance accuracy they are the best compared to the other brands and hence the reason why I went ahead and bought the FR610. If there were another decent brand, I probably would have given them a try.
I do have to give REI customer service 5 stars! I've never had a problem returning any of the 3 watches -- the customer service rep actually thanked me for bringing my watch in today and that was without any packaging, receipt, etc such that she had to do more searching in my account to find the information! If it weren't for their stellar customer service and return policy, I would have given up on this Garmin watch after the second one because it would have been too much of a hassle through most other retailers.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
The Garmin 210 is good when it works. I used it only as a GPS while training for a marathon (as opposed to daily use as a watch). It was fine for several months. It would take 3-4 minutes to locate satellites, even on clear, sunny days. But once located, distances & pace seemed accurate. (Never ran on a pre-measured course, so the GPS gets the benefit of the doubt.) However, after less than a dozen uses the device died while charging. I tried numerous button combinations, but it never worked again. Had to return it.

I use this for training runs and cycling. But, it doesn't work as easily for cycling.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
I owned the Garmin Forerunner 210 for about a month and a half. For the first two weeks, it performed like a champ. After that, it took several attempts to get it set just right in it's charger. The charger has to be one of the worst designs I've seen. Also, itbegan to "lock up" or the screen would go blank, even though the battery had a full charge. After having to "reboot" this watch, which took SEVERAL attempts each time, I was finally fed up and took it back to REI. REI exchanged it with no problems. I ended up upgrading to the 610 to see if it performed any better. So far, the 610 works great. It's never frozen on me, and it even has a few extra features I appreciate. Stay away from the 210. That thing is JUNK.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
If I had to describe this watch in one word it would be exasperating. The controls are downright goofy. To turn it on and find a satellite you have to hit "light" twice, then page/menu 3 times. I often turn it on then leave it outside to find a satellite. More often than not I go out to find it asking if I plan to use it indoors rather than locating a satellite. To turn it completely off, you hit "light" (twice). You then get asked "shut down?" but the default is "no." Why??? I wish I had purchased a remanufactured 207. It showed four functions, rather than three, and was much more user friendly. To recharge, you have to line up four posts/receptors, rather than one. Why?? I am not good with electronics; people who love that stuff may appreciate this watch more than I do.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
This is my third Garmin and by far the best. I replaced the 405 with this watch and I only wish I would have done it sooner. Problems and buggy issues with the 405 are non-existant. I can focus on my run and my marathon training, without worrying about whether my watch is doing what it's supposed to do.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
This is a great basic GPS for running- very simple and easy to use and not too bulky. Care must be taken to ensure it is clipped correctly to the charger. It worked without any problems for about two months, then the 'pace' readings became really inaccurate (off by 2 minutes/mile!) for about a week, then the screen went blank and died completely a week before my marathon. A friend had the same experience with her 210 after 3 months of use.
My local REI replaced it immediately (fantastic customer service-thank you!) and so far the replacement is working well. While I like the watch when it works, I can't recommend due to reliability.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 210 GPS Fitness Monitor - Black:
I use the 210 for day-to-day training for triathlons. The watch is very accurate and the "My Garmin" site is an excellent tool. The four-pronged charging strap is difficult to connect to the watch. On several occasions I have connected the strap (and saw the "charging" indication) and set the watch down to charge for several hours only to find out later that the charge stopped. The connection is very touchy and requires multiple manipulations to actually get the "charging" indication. Watchband is not replaceable. If watchband breaks, the watch has to be replaced.
