The Delta Kayaks Catfish 12.5 with rudder sit-on-top kayak uses an innovative, catamaran-style hull to achieve incredible stability and excellent tracking.

Thermoformed ABS plastic hull material is stiff and light like traditional composite kayaks and offers similar looks, but costs considerably less

Comments about Delta Kayaks Catfish 12.5 Sit-On-Top Kayak with Rudder:

I am reviewing the 12.5 non-rudder version, but my understanding is the only difference is the addition of the rudder.

PROS
Super excited about this kayak. I loved the stability and ability to stand and paddle feature, much like a stand up paddle board. This kayak is FAST and let's face it, looks great. People will ask you about it whenever they can catch you. My son loves the clear window in the bottom of the boat and my dog loves to sit in the back. Weighing around 50 lbs, makes it easy to lift and transport without a cart.

CONS
If you intend to stand or you sometimes are forced to any situation in which it is less than a smooth entry into the seat, the plastic molding supporting the seat will fail. I am on my second 12.5 kayak and the same thing happened after 2 months of medium frequency use. Both occasions I heard a crack of a 2-3 mm thick molded plastic and then a the distinct smell of a monomer. I called Delta and offered suggestions and my input, but then did not call back. I am very thankful for customer service at REI!!
