Comments about Merrell Chameleon 4 Ventilator Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Walking three and half miles on paved and natural forest trail five days a week with some steep inclines in all kinds of weather, including snow and rain. The shoes grip very well and I feel secure no matter what the conditions, plus my feet stay dry.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon 4 Ventilator Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I bought these shoes a couple weeks ago. So far so good. They are comfortable, supportive, waterproof, and overall a pretty good shoe. The only thing I have noticed is that the vibram sole is a little slippery on went concrete floors.

I like the support this shoe gives. I am a female, but wear a mens shoe since it's wider in the toe box making it more comfortable for me.

Service and delivery comments:
The young lady who recommended these shoes helped fit me and made sure I was satisfied. She also pointed out that here was a sale on hiking socks that were just he accessory I needed.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon 4 Ventilator Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
After trying on many of it's competitors at the store, I kept coming back to this shoe as the best fit. Some other Hiking shoe brands are too stiff and need a long break in period. The Merrell's have a sturdy feel, but bend like trail running shoe when first trying on. A very comfortable fit and you could walk several miles right out of the store in them. My only long term negative is that with the stiff heal rim on the back, they slip on a whole lot easier if using a shoe horn. I would also consider taking out the laces and adding lock laces.

Great shoe. Boot sturdy footwear in a "sneaker" form. These replaced an earlier version of this shoe I had. Have been really happy with this product.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon 4 Ventilator Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I had to return this last pair after only 8 months of use and about 100 miles of hiking. It was my 4th pair of Merrell Chameleons. I've used them extensively for dayhikes in Glacier National Park and have loved the comfort and glove-like fit. They are so comfortable I've also worn them around town and they look good enough to wear in the classroom. When I lived in Peru for 2 years, they were great for walking around the city.
For me, the "Achille's heel" of recent Merrell boots has been the lacing loops. They eventually wear through. I'd hate to have that happen 8 miles from the trailhead. An otherwise great product has been degraded by poor durability in the lacing system. I just wish Merrell would invest in some new super-durable material (like Kevlar)to match the high quality of the fit.
I have had no problems with the leather splitting but have to say that the lugged soles on my recent pair seem to be wearing much more quickly than the pairs I bought several years ago. Durability seems to no longer be a hallmark of Merrell products.
Service and delivery comments:
As always, REI has done a GREAT job on accepting returns for defective gear.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon 4 Ventilator Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Great trail shoe. Vey comfortable. Unfortunately the lace loops are very poorly designed. Within 6 months of owning these the fabric loops were showing signs of wear and eventually broke when I was tightening my laces. The laces are also poorly made and shredded and ripped.
