Comments about Dagger Axis 10.5 Kayak with Skeg:

Over the years I've rented several types of kayaks. The Axis 10.5 is the first one I've owned and I think this little kayak embodies all of the positive qualities from several styles of kayaks and packages them well into one functional boat. This yak tracks straight thanks to the drop skeg and is extremely stable. Ingress/egress is fairly easy too, especially for me being a larger paddler at 6'2'' and 205 lbs. The CFS-R seating system works well and gives a comfortableand easily adjustable ride that supports well and does'nt fatigue my back, even after several hours of paddling. Primarily I use this boat on rivers, but it tackles the big salt waters of Puget Sound also. The drop skeg is easy to use and makes a dramatic difference in tracking when you come to the slow-water stretches of the river. On the other side of the coin, it's really nimble and easy to maneuver through mild white water rapids. So far I've only done day trips, but I think it would be fairly simple to do some overnight camping trips as the Axis has plenty of storage capacity. This kayak is well built and will give me years of fun and good service.

Comments about Dagger Axis 10.5 Kayak with Skeg:

I did a lot of research before purchasing this product, my first kayak. It is so awesome, it will be my last kayak. I use it at least once a week except during winter to paddle along the local lakes and rivers. I am 5'10, 243lbs and this boat is a perfect fit for me. It handles well, is very stable, and is tough. The only drawback is that I am female, and the boat is too heavy for me to lift onto my car alone or carry for any long distances. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Comments about Dagger Axis 10.5 Kayak with Skeg:

This was recommeded by two other friends who have the 12.5 foot. I find I get a little more workout with the 10.5 foot. Seating comfort and stability is better than expected. Good tracking for length. Small but adequate storage for day trips. Room behind seat can store drinking water systems in backpack. Could use interior side netting storage for sunscreen and glove compartment to firmly hold drybox. Good kayak for the money. Bow can hold small dog if desired.

Comments about Dagger Axis 10.5 Kayak with Skeg:

I purchased this kayak from REI in 2010 and have used the kayak probably 20 times. I've been paddling 15 years but don't consider myself an expert. I'm 6'0" tall and 200 pounds. The Axis 10.5 is a perfect ride for me since I like to paddle creeks and rivers. I recently paddled a river with some Class II sections and was very pleased with the Axis 10.5's performance. I felt like the kayak was built for the task and handled the rapids like a champ. With the skeg down it tracks straight enough on open water or slow moving creeks. I chose the Axis 10.5 instead of the 12 foot version for it's maneuverability and weight. I would definitley recommend this kayak to a like minded paddler, and my teenage daughter is now asking me to buy her one. The only negatives and the reason for my 4-star rating is that the skeg makes some noise by moving from side to side while deployed, and the bulkhead needed additional sealing when I picked up the kayak. Otherwise, it's the Cadillac of hybrid creek boats and I enjoy paddling it !
