There are a few very nice things about this pair of pants and one horrible thing. Let me explain
The pockets: I like them, they are not too big or too small the knife slash pocket is a very nice feature as is the zippered left cargo pocket. The material is also very good, cotton mixed with nylon gives a nice comfortable feel like jeans, but the nylon adds a little more adventure aspect to them. I would feel comfortable taking these on the trail for a summer hike where I wouldn't like to to do that with a pair of jeans. The overall look and and layout of the pant is very nice. I happen to like the greenish color I got them in but some other colors would be a nice option. Thats not really a con for me.

The bad, and folks this is a big one. The pants are cut funny. If you hike them way up on your waist line they still don't seem to fit in the crotch area. I have also worn them rather low (my preferred way) and still found the crotch to be awkward. Basically its like they didn't place the gusset correctly so you are pulling material towards your crotch from the pant legs. You get these weird creases and you constantly feel like you are wearing your pants too low. I have looked over some of the other reviews and they are saying pretty much the same thing. Also there are some stitches that kinda articulate the knees and these I found rubbing and quite uncomfortable when I wear the pants high up on my waist.

REI: fix the fitting of these pants and you will have a real winner hear. I personally would by another pair then.

I just can't recommend these pants to anyone else because of the fit, I like the look and the style and functionality but that poor fit is a deal breaker.

I've been using these as my go to hiking/backpacking pants for the last month or so and am verry happy with them.

Good pocket layout, tough fabric (which is good, I do a lot of bushwhacking), reasonable water resistance and they fit well, though I had to go up a size to be comfortable.

They have a nice internal tie in the waist that can be used in lieu of a belt, which is handy.

The fabric and texture is kind of strange. It is very stiff and somewhat noisy. Not as bad some nylon pants, but a little distrating. In the backcountry I don't care so much, though during a quiet hike (say in the snow), you might be distracted by it.

Overall, I'm satisifed and would buy again, preferably in a different color if ever available.

Perfect fit if you are a true 34-32. Comfortable yet not bulky or too loose. Strong material.

To REI: Please do not cheapen this product and make it in more colours (charcoal, blue, etc)

I purchased these pants but returned them. First, let me say that the fit felt correct, as far as the waist is concerned; but I really don't understand why you can't get a length longer than 32". I thought the 32" would work, if just barely; but when I got home I could see that the length needed to be longer. Anyway, if this were a pants that included 34" I'd buy 2 or 3 pair; at present, however, it just seems an odd limitation b/c I have to imagine that there are a lot of guys who need longer than 32".

I wear the pants sailing on a 23' boat in S.F. Bay. In the summer the Bay is windy and getting wet is normal. The cotton/nylon blend provides warmth, wind resistance and quick drying.

If interested, I recommend buying now before REI follows its product curve and cheapens the pants.

This is a really good cargo pant. It has 8 pockets. 2 of the pockets fit an iPhone perfectly. Relaxed fit unlike so many of the pants sold at REI.
Material seems to be an optimal blend of cotton and nylon. I hope it does not shrink as the length is exact.
Only improvements would be 2 other shades of khaki and better, longer, more rugged cords/ internal belts for adjusting the fit. A really thick pure cotton version would be a winner too.

I now have three pair of these pants, all with the original tags and not washed (or worn).

34x34 (no longer available on this site?). Waist feels true, length is true (and perfect for me!). Pants are too tight to get over my right thigh, but okay on the left. I measured, my thighs are symmetric.

34x32 Waist is true, length is true (too short for me). Adequate thigh cut for me.

36x32 Waist is the same as the 34's above, more room in the thighs, but marginally. Length is still too short.

REI: Please keep offering length 34 for your taller customers. We can always make them shorter if it is on the borderline, but we can't make them longer. Please also apply some quality control to make sure the sizing matches what is printed on the labels.

Please offer these pants in other colors. I'll be ordering about 30 pair in hopes of finding one or two that fit correctly.
