Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. Thule T2 XTR - 2 Bike is rated 4.3333 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but I love it. Through the years I've graduated from the cheap "trunk" style racks to the roof mounted racks. With my wife getting into cycling - and unable to lift her 30lb Schwinn onto the roof of our SUV! - we went for a hitch-mount. I selected this rack after reading around for 2 reasons: 1. I wanted a rack that supports the bike from the bottom, not one from the top where the bike can 'swing' around; 2. The Thule has a built in lock for each bike that the Yakima didn't. I've used it twice now, for a short and medium trip with 2 road bikes and am very happy: - despite other comments I found the instructions actually pretty easy to follow (although stupidly I did put the wheel mounts on backwards despite clear pictures - "handy" I am not!). - it feels stable. There is still a little bit of movement of the bikes as you'd expect, but you can keep an eye on them in the mirror, unlike a roof mount. - loading and unloading bikes is a breeze. Takes a minute, and most of that is fastening the rear wheel ratchet strap. - it doesn't block access to the trunk. I can pop the glass on my SUV and still access the trunk (opening the trunk fully involves 'lowering' the rack but the rack is still in the way). - there's not the 'wind noise' you get with roof mounted racks. The main issue I can see is deciding whether to leave the rack on through the riding season vs removing and re-attaching it. It's relatively easy to remove (a nut and looooong bolt), but then there's the storage of the rack and the reattachment time too. This vs. maneuvering around the lowered rack for access to the trunk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Bike Rack I did a lot of online research before deciding on the Thule x2. The reason I decided on it was that I believed it would be the safest way to transport my bikes - meaning more stable than the hanging bike racks and won't damage my bike, however that makes it heavier. I had it installed at REI for around $20. I recommend doing this, I think it would have taken me twice as long. Also, the rack screws into the hitch, so it's not easily swappable between cars, which was one thing I was looking for. The other pro on this is that it's expandable - you can add another part to hold 2 more bikes. Overall this is a great rack - I get my bike on it in under a minute, and it's super solid in the rack, and safe - no scratching.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "The best rack for any two bikes" once you place the bikes on this rack you have nothing to worry about. potholes, rough roads wont impact the secure fit of the bikes on this rack . I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rack Easy To Use This is a great rack that is so easy to use. It folds up when not in use and folds down to open the back door. I really like the cable locks that are integrated into the rack. Although the locks are not something that I would leave overnight, they do provide a deterent for short periods. I have used this rack with my road bike, cross country bike and my downhill bike and its fits them all perfectly. The snug-tite receiver lock works very well to eliminate movement of the rack. The only complaint that I have is that they only give you three locks and you need five. So you either have to buy two more with different keys or buy the six pack of locks that thule sells.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Rack I was torn between the Thule T2 and the Yakima Hold Up. Luckily, REI had the T2 on sale so it made the choice easier. It's definitely a solid, two bike rack. Not terribly heavy but it's more robust than my last rack so I expect it to be heavier. Maybe 20 to 30 minutes to put together and super easy and quick to actually mount a bike to. It takes just a couple minutes to install it on the truck. I don't particularly like needing a tool to install it but that's the price for a more stable rack. It's durable in the sense that it will certainly take a lot of miles of abuse with a couple bikes in it. But, it also has a lot of plastic on it so I know it's not gonna be terribly long before I'm replacing the wheel well, straps, or ratcheting arm. That's why I don't keep it on my truck all the time. I don't want the hot, AZ sun to prematurely age all that plastic. And I hope no one buys it because of the locks. It is a nice touch but will only prevent the most rudimentary of thieves from absconding with your bike. Plus, the cable isn't long enough to do anything but wrap around the closest part of the frame. When I want to secure it I have a 10' cable that's three times as thick that I can wind through the frame and wheels so I don't have any parts missing. But, then again, we don't leave our bikes on the rack all the time so that could be a non-issue. All in all it was a great purchase and I think it will work wonderfully for me for some time provided I can care for all that plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very secure and stable with bikes on When I bought a new bike with 29" tires and dual shocks the bike no longer fit easily into my short bed Tacoma. I just drove from fresno to Denver and back with 2 mtn bikes on my new T2 rack. I was impressed with how snug it fit once tightened down on the hitch, and never had to worry about bikes moving around on the back of my truck. It is easy for me to lift on and off my truck and mount the bikes by myself. Even driving over bumps in the road the bikes stayed very secure and stable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 major failures in first season of use The rack was very stable on my SUV. However, the lowering mechanism to unfold the rack needed to be tweaked every single time to unstick it. The ratcheting arm no longer locked into place on the front tire, which means the bike was no longer securely attached to the rack. I rarely used the security locks, but when I did they would not retract with ease. Thankfully REI has a good return policy. Based on the positive reviews, I don't know if the one I purchased was an exception but I will not be purchasing another Thule rack.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Returned for refund Had some fitting issues on my particular SUV (spare tire on back door sticks out about 1" too far when rack is folded up), which could have been addressed with a simple extension. But I decided to bag the whole idea and return the rack because the latching mechanism for folding it up/down was extremely rough / sticky meaning the release lever would stick and would not release the pin 75% of the time. Frankly for the price and positive reviews I had read, I was bummed out by my bad luck in finding one that had such poor quality construction. Glad I bought at REI for easy return. May try again in future and hope for a better quality build, but will definitely not pay full price again.
