This knife was a very worthy buy! The some things that annoy me is the serated edge that covers half the blade and how soft the medal is. Also it says that the medal is high carbon but i found that gerbers mysterious steel is actually 1055 carbon wich isnt bad but not high carbon. The fire starter was tricky to get used to but I eventually found my personal best way to use it I have used it in almost every outdoor situation along with its brother the parang the only chage I made was paintinf the handle and sheath jet black for tactical purposes granted this isn't the best knife ever but it still deserves four stars.

I like the appearance of the knife. It is comfortable to grab and has a good weight. I never used the flint. I was messing around in the woods on my first trip with the knife...gathering twigs etc to make a fire. I went to hack at this 4-6mm branch and the serrated edge deformed, not completely but enough for me to question the quality of this product. I havent returned it yet, but I plan to once I find a replacement.

I did like the knife overall, but not impressed.

I have several Gerber knives along with a couple of Benchmade's. I have to say at first I was a little skeptical based on some bad reviews of this knife. Seems that Gerber had some manufacturing issues when this knife first came out. I've owned the knife for approx 6 months now and have beat the thing to hell. It still is very sharp and the handle is fine. I've used it on various backpacking trips along with believe it or not, helped build my new kitchen (dont ask!). For the money I can honestly say, you get a lot of value here. The Firestarter still throws a good spark. I have done things to this knife to almost try to damage it but unsuccessful. I believe reviewers who might have complained early on with the quality issues have nothing to complain about any more. Customer service is top notch with this company and the employees at my local REI store have been very helpful with questions I orginally had before purchasing this product.

I am an avid hiker. I hike all over Oregon, Idaho and Washington. This is the best knife/tool you will ever have hiking. It has come in handy so many times and is tough as you can get. Those of you who say you broke it what did you do take a sledge hammer to it? Even a solid peice of steel will eventually break. This is the toughest knife i have ever used. Been buying it for all my freinds and they all love it too.

I knew there were problems with the knife went it came out but the research I did showed that Gerber had fix the problems. Needless to say I was still worried when I got it. So the first thing I did was took it out and tried to break it. Thankfully I failed. Its constructed well and has great features for being my primary knife.

Am very disappointed that REI carries this piece of garbage.. Bear Grylls should know what a good survival knife is after all his in the field experience and shake his head at this toy knife.. A friend bought one and asked me to put it through the paces.. At the end of two days in the field I brought it back to him in pieces.. A simple Marine Corps Karbar would blow this piece of junk out of the water and is easy on the wallet.. I carry a Kabar in my car for the just in case scenerio for over twenty years now and it is unbeatable.. Please don't waste your money or risk you life on this hyped up piece of junk..

This product is a fake just like the Bear Grylls name it carries. Gerber has chosen to build this knife as a gimmic. Very poor quality, not even as good as some of Gerber's $15 knives. Save your money and get a real survival knife; Gerber LMF, esee, TOPS, Ka-Bar Becker, Cold steel, or even a SOG. Spend an extra $20-60 and get a knife worth the money.

The one good thing is the all inclusive sheath.

Inelegant, breakable, ineffective: I bought this and another BG knife and they both had poor blades. The design is next to useless for camping because of the too deep serrations and the blade wears quickly compared to other Gerber knives. Gerber is has lost its edge with the BG line.

This is a great, sturdy knife. The only complaint would be that the fire starting aspect of the knife isn't as consistent or as efficient as I would like. It is a perfect camping knife but I would not recommend use for hunting or survival situations!
