Comments about Salomon XA WS Softshell Jacket - Men's:
Has every feature I have been wanting and some I didnt know I wanted till it arrived.
-2 zippered hand pockets above waist straps/harness level
-napoleon pocket (has a small inner pocket in the mesh, i guess to keep mp3 player secure?)
-interior map/skins pockets behind hand pocket mesh
-stowable hood (no adjustments needed, has a gasket like system around the face, elastic band that acts as the adjusters, wired brim...wont fit over a helmet, but will fit under)
-2 way stretch Windstopper front, hood, butt, exterior arms
-4 way stretch highly breathable fabric on sides, interior/under arms, back
-gripper material on shoulders
-snap across the chest & behind the zipper above napoleon pocket for venting (attaches the two sides so you can unzip partially without the chest flopping around)
-single pull hem drawstring
-thumbholes
-Very water repellent
Only thing I can think of it missing is a port hole for headphones, but that is an easy DIY snip.
Ignore the negative review, he bought the wrong jacket for his intended use.
My intended use is for cold weather mtn biking, urban/roadish cycling, and jogging as well as cool weather hiking. I havent used it yet cuz its summer, but having used softshells of various types in the past and figuring out the pros and cons, this is the one ive been searching for. As long as it lasts a reasonable amount of time, I cant think of a reason give it less than 5 stars. The bright blue color is sick too (two materials are just slightly off shade from each other if that matters to you). 5'11" 185, generally get a L jacket and am in between M/L shirts dependent on brand. L in this fits perfect with a little room, but not baggy, spot on. I havennt been this pleased with a piece of outerwear without even using it in ever

Comments about Salomon XA WS Softshell Jacket - Men's:
I've been longing for one of these jackets since trying one on at an REI store. When I found it on sale I couldn't help myself. It was not available in large at the time so I went for an XL and find it fits just fine. The sleeves will seem a little long until you slip your thumb in the sleeve hole, which is one of the nicest features of this jacket. That's usually all I need after warming up, it lets me slip the gloves off. Unfortunately, I did not notice that this jacket does not have any pockets other than the one on the chest, which is too high for carrying all the things I bring on runs. Given that many manufacturers are leaving the pockets off shorts too, you are left with few options for carrying gels, gloves, cell phone, etc. This is not a deal breaker for me as I often run trails with a pack, however it's a huge flaw in the design of a trail running jacket. I like the hood, this is the only jacket in this class that had that, but also question the lack of adjustment. This is a fine jacket for spring casual wear but does lack many of the features you will want for serious distance running.

Comments about Salomon XA WS Softshell Jacket - Men's:
I live in an incredibly windy location on Lake Superior in northern Wisconsin. I trail run our vast network of single track trails right off of the beach line and into the rolling hills of the inlet. I was looking for a jacket that could protect me from wind elements in all directions as wind tends to shift hourly around here. When I got the jacket (purchased online), I was baffled when I realized the back has no wind protection. I was thinking to myself "Salomon what are you thinking, doesn't wind blow in all directions?" The back is a fine lycra material that is transparent to air. Breathing is an understatement as this jacket bares all from the back. I understand that Salomon placed the windblock material on the front panels, and that we run forward not back, however if you have a tail wind you are incredibly exposed. The other huge flaw is that the hood has no adjustment system at all. Unless you have an extremely long neck and large head this hood gets blown up with air above the head forcing all of the air down your back. That is a huge design flaw. The other flaw is that the chest pocket does not have a headphone jack access fromt the inside. There are no other pockets on the inside so you are forced to unless you have a clip on media device you are going to be holding it or putting it in a pocket in your pants. All in all this is one of the more disappointing products I have purchase and I am a little embarrassed for Salomon, being the trail running developer they are you would think these design flaws would have never happened. I have looked high and low on the market for a wind blocking or wind proof jacket on the market and aside from a waterproof jacket for running, I have not found a suitable jacket with a hood. So I am going to say I would not recommend this to anyone or those of you who are serious trail runners. Because Salomon is one of the better if not best clothing developers in the trail running cirque, and they can not seem to make a usable product I am going to be left with no choice. Enough with the mediocrity and time for a new era. Because Salomon and all other companies are so deficient in product development I am seriously thinking about taking maters into my own hands; taking some of my hard earned savings and creating my own company
