Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 135 Kayak:
I love this kayak. I got the hurricane 116 sport last year as my first kayak and quickly wanted more speed and better tracking. It's great to learn with because of large easy entry and exit cockpit and at 28" wide very stable. That being said as I got more proficient I headed for more open water with more swells and chop. That's when I started wanting a longer better tracking boat that rode waves better. Since the quality and price value were so good on the 116 the first boat I looked at was it's bigger brother the 135. I compared it to others and the feature that really puts these kayaks ahead of the competition is the seating. They are thickly padded, breathable and adjustable ,1) seat fore and aft 2) seat back up and down 3) thigh support up and down 4) foot pegs and foldable seat back for easy transport.
The 135 is almost 5 " narrower and hull shape is more symmetrical than the 116 so it's MUCH faster and more maneuverable with better tracking on open water and it slices thru waves more instead of riding up and over compared to the 116. I can do hi angle paddling much easier since I don't have to reach over to work around the wider profile of the 116. I love both of these boats and they are each great when being used as intended. I was going to sell the 116 till my 8 year old grandsons both tried and LOVED IT!! :)

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 135 Kayak:
I started out comparing several kayaks and narrowed it down to the Hurricane Santee 135 and the Wilderness Systems Tsunami 125. It was a hard choice because of the features each boat offered. My wife helped with the decision by pointing out that the Santee 135 was 10 lbs lighter which would be an advantage with my bad back when I lift it onto my roof rack. It is a narrower and tippier boat but fairly stable just the same. This winter I plan on going to the rolling classes in a heated pool and explore just how far I can lean. One should sit in this boat before buying as large feet and long legs may find it cramped. I have a 32 inch inseam and size 13 feet. On the water it sits well and when paddling it goes fairly fast. It's hard for others to keep up (reminds me of the saying; If you're not the lead dog, the scenery remains the same). I would recommend this boat to anyone who enjoys paddling and wants to improve their skills.
Service and delivery comments:
REI did a great job getting the boat to the store for pick up. Service was great and there were lots of folks who offered advice on the care of the boat.
