Comments about MTI BOB PFD - Kids':
When my son could wear this jacket, it fit well and was comfortable to him without any chafing. However, we bought this for our son two years ago when he was just under 50 lbs. Now he is 6 years old and 56lbs and the jacket won't fit over his head. This had started to be an issue last year. I expect a 50-90lb youth PFD to fit until a child is near 90 lbs. I returned it successfully, but was given chastisment by the customer service guy who said kids outgrow things and it was like a kid outgrowing shoes and somehow it was my fault I was returning it. He obvoiusly didn't know anything about PFD's and after the experience I left the store livid. Appearently REI is changing how they handle returns.

Works great! My son loves it, although the color does not do well with his red hair, but I'm not really worried about that.
If you are having issues getting it on, unzip and loosen the straps. It slipped over his big Charlie Brown head with ease. I purposely avoided buckles because he can be a bit of a Houdini.
Great buy!

We bought this life jacket for canoeing (flat water only)--
1. it wont fit over a kid's head, without pushing the front buckles up thru the cloth; means kid cant put it on himself.
2. if the kid sits in the bottom of the canoe (pretty often this will be the case, right?) the pfd rides up and pushes under his chin.
blech, no good.

Comments about MTI BOB PFD - Kids':
My 50lb daughter was hesitant to join paddling adventures as she was uncomfortable in 2 other PFDs I had her wear on other occasions. I took her to REI to try them on and she liked how the Bob looked (the whistle had something to do with it). I had her and my 70lb son try it on and it was really hard to get it over either of their heads and I gave up.
I was frustrated because other children's PFD's all seemed to ride up to her neck. I called MTI for advice and ended up getting a BOB anyway. After extending the shoulder straps completely and spreading the opening for the head completely, it went on without fuss.
We took it out kayaking and she was happy and comfortable. She was able to swim in it and it did not ride up over her head. With a little patience trying it on, I think the Bob is great for the lower end of its weight range.

Comments about MTI BOB PFD - Kids':
I bought this for one of my kids (a 50lb 7-year-old) but it just barely fit. The head hole is too small, there's no room for growth and there were complaints that the material in the back was uncomfortable. The size range for this vest is supposed to be 50-90 lbs., I would say that it looks like it would be ideal for a 3-5 year-old. The quality seems high and I liked the way that it fit in general. If it was more adjustable, I wouldn't be returning it.

Comments about MTI BOB PFD - Kids':
Has "cool" factor so kids like to wear it and has useful features like tethered whistle, easily accessible front pocket, hand warming pocket, reflective tape. Drawbacks are there is no zipper so it has to slip over child's head and head hole is quite small. Was purchased for 70 lb. 8 year old of average size; head hole is tight going on and off but fine once it's on. It would have been a very simple fix to have made the adjustable shoulder straps an inch longer. Also, one of the waist strap buckles is tucked behind the pocket panel which makes it somewhat difficult to acccess. All in all the positive features outweight the minor drawbacks.
