Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Women's:

I bought these boots right before a spring time trip to the Northern Sierras, with a climb to summit Matterhorn Peak. The whole trip was about 10 miles total with 10,000 feet of elevation change, through mixed terrain. I was nervous about having to break them in, but they were comfortable and didn't give me any trouble at all. As a matter of fact, they performed great- my feet didn't overheat in warm socks while we were on the trail, even though it was 70+ degrees. Once we got into snow, my feet stayed toasty and completely dry. Above the timberline, they were great through multiple types of snow- from powder to grainy to sloshy they stayed dry. There were only a few instances where my toes were cold, and it was really only when I was sitting around at night or very early in the morning (which is to be expected). Contrary to the other reviewer's gripe about the stiffness of the sole, stiff is what I want in a mountaineering boot. The stiffness was good for using crampons, edging, kick stepping on the way up, and good for plunge stepping on the way down. I wouldn't choose this boot for a hike, even through some snow, but for higher altitude mountaineering and climbing, they were awesome. My only gripe is that they're pretty ugly, I don't know who thinks lime green and silver is a good color combo. Definitely didn't care about that above 10,000 feet when my feet were warm and blister free though!

Comments about Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots - Women's:

Just tried these out for my first time today - was a great fit, and had great stability. I have small ankles and the boots fit like a glove, and didn't shift on all types of terrain. We traveled over jagged rocks, snow, and wet ground, and I had great balance.

My only con is that because they are so stiff you don't have any flex in the shoe, so although they were so amazing and comfortable on the way up, the trek down was steep and the lack of flex started to make the boot feel less comfortable since it was hard to catch myself while walking down.

Overall though, loved the boot, and it was my first hike with them, so I'm certain they probably have a certain amount of break in time. But very satisfied thus far!
