Rated 4 out of 5 by from To small for me, but my son loves it I had high hopes that I could use this bag for small day hikes (lunch and water), but this is more of a hydration pack only. I am 6' 2" @ 220 and it was to small... BUT my 5 year old son loves it!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just right for the right use 3.5 Unfortunatley the Stoke 9 just didn't work for me. I was hoping it would be more of a do all pack I could use while biking, geocaching, travel, day hikes, & etc. While the pack works well for some of these activities it fell short on others. The pack is perfect for short hikes, biking, & geocaching but for longer day hikes, travel, long dog walks, or when I need a little more room it didn't work. Think of it as a decent size hydration pack, with some storage and if that is all you need you will be very happy. Features are great; tiny waist belt keeps it close, well vented through out, shock cord for a light layer works fine, and the side stash pockets can hold a gps, small camera, or snacks. Just be aware once you throw your hydartion bladder in here the main compartment get's a little tight & limited. I found that the REI Stoke 19 was much better but the Gregory Miwok 18 was perfect for me. Again, depending on your activities it may or may not work for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Five Stars all the way Product much better than I expected. Fits me (6'1", 180lb) very well for running. Well ventilated and comfortable back and armrests. Many commenters comlain that at 9L it's too small--for me, it's at the large end of what I'd want for my 15-30 mile runs. For running, I can fit a mediumweight sweatshirt, a few energy gels, and a liter of water just. I dont really like camelbak systems since i worry that they are both heavy and get dirty internally, but this backpack is well suited for one of those so i might try it. for lightweight day hiking it's also good. you can fit a small lunch and a lightweight jacket either inside or tied to the outer bungee thing. there are also gear loops of sorts that actually work for my hiking poles. the backack sits very high up on your back. the material at the back is comfortable. there is more space than i thought, but it's still a micro backpack. 9L people! i am not rail thin, but not overweight. the chest straps fit me with a little to spare, but not very much. if you are overweight or generally large, they will not close for you. there are three zippered compartments. quite a lot for such a small pack! the zippers themselves are of decent, but not specialist quality. they appear to be the type that may have problems at some point down the line, especially after moisture and dirt or maybe the cheap zipper pulls may break. yes, this is just speculation, but still. making the rei logo on a piece of rubber doesnt add a lot of weight, but even so the idea that they made it a piece of rubber and not just something painted or stiched on kind of offends those of us who think about weight :) i havent found any use for the side stretch compartments. they seem to be too small for anything useful. something like gloves or a hat maybe, i guess. but overall it's a fine piece of kit, and well worth the price when on offer (as it appears to be often)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack For Long Runs I've used this pack on dozens of long runs when I've needed extra room beyond a small hydration pack and it's worked really well. I'm talking winter runs, long runs in the mountains in the summer, etc. If I'm headed up high, I can usually fit hat, gloves, snacks, as well as an extra water bottle and shell strapped to the outside (it can accept a hydration bladder but I often opt for a bottle). And a light water filter inside. Ha! I'm on my second pack in maybe 3 years, mainly because of the elastic cord wearing out, but I could probably just buy some more cord at... REI. Ah well, the second one was on sale. I'll look into that though. One of the best pieces of gear I've bought. PS - A couple of reviews said it's too small. I disagree. If so, buy a bigger pack. ?? That's like saying the shoes I bought were too small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great day hike pack with hydration! I used this pack for a trip to Peru including Machu Picchu. It served perfectly as a day-trip/day-hike bag for 8 days. I made the most use out of the reservoir pocket (note: I have a 1.8L Platypus and it was a little tough getting it into the pocket when full). The main compartment was enough to hold documents, a small camera, several energy bars, and a balled up rain coat. The smaller compartment was good to hold keys or a wallet and a cell phone. The outside snap cords did a great job of holding rolled up fleece, or my rain jacket when I didn't want to ball it up. Also, I kept a BPA-free water bottle strapped with it if it wasn't occupied. The mesh backing and shoulder straps were very comfy and prevented excess perspiration. All in all, it was the perfect bag and I would recommend it to anyone looking to bike, do light day-hikes, or just for traveling to carry essentials.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for winter sports Bought the pack to bring lunch/snacks for our skiing/snowboarding trips. I wasnt certain if I would like having a "pack" but figured it was worth the cost savings from the resort restaurants. I was very pleasantly surprised by this pack. Even with the addition of a water bladder (not included) there was plenty of room for our lunch and snacks. The pack was also very comfortable... most of the time, I forgot it was there. Very happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit - Ideal for short hikes! Holds a 2L reservoir and my ENO double hammock and straps. Plenty of room for me to include camera, snacks, bug spray, small first aid kit, and GPS/maps. Very comfortable and a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient, Good Size So far I've used it on one 2 week vacation and it was much easier to carry and drink a lot of water throughout the day in a hot climate than it is carrying a water bottle of the same size. The multiple pockets were really convenient to separate the smaller items from getting lost at the bottom of the bag. Overall the storage space was roomy but the bag still doesn't look bulky - this is my favorite part about the bag - I could fit a travel guide, phone, snack, hat, into the main compartment and a sweater under the band on the outside. The waist strap helps take the weight off your shoulder if you fill it up. The one con I've noticed is that the drinking hose can get pinched while getting it out to the shoulder strap, and can get twisted as well (so it doesn't lie flat across your chest). Especially if you need to take the bladder in and out a lot this requires a bit of time to adjust.
