Comments about Ruffwear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots - Set of 4:
My husband and I bought these boots for our husky because she was wearing down her nails past the quick when she was running next to my husband's bike, causing them to bleed. We used them walking her in the beginning, but they kept turning on her feet whenever she walked awkwardly (which is all the time with these things on). However, when she is running, she totally forgets about the boots and they don't turn. So highly recommended for running, not so much for slower hikes. Also, it does cause dogs with lots of hair to sweat a good amount, so not highly recommended in the summertime without considering fluid intake.

Our Boxer loves her shoes. We use them for walking in the hot summers to keep her feet from burning as well as hiking. They stay on and don't seem to cause her any problems. She seems to have a lot of mobility in them. I thought they would be stiff but they weren't. I haven't had to put socks on her. Great shoes for a dog.

Purchased these in hopes of saving the pads on my dogs feet while bird hunting. Which they did, but they do not stay on well so she loses them frequently, they rub her raw in multiple locations and they wore out after only a few days of hunting. Good idea, but I say they aren't worth the headache as they caused more problems than they solved. Also tried these in tandem with the matching socks, but those don't stay on either they just ball up in the toe of the boot.

These are excellent boots for dayhikes, backpacking or just walking around town. I had no problem getting my 1 year old boxer to wear them although it did take a little getting used to.

I only rate this product at 4 stars because of the price. These boots have saved our new carpet from the muddy foothills of Tennessee where clay rules the land. It took my German Shepherd several days to get accustomed to the boots. He started to walk really funny with them on, it was hilarious. After he got used to them, he started walking like normal again. We primarily used them for trail running and letting him play outside. We have a lot of mud out here and these things rock. The boots stay on and they cake all the mud on the bottom of the shoes. We used to have a bucket of water at the back door that we used to clean his paws every time he went outside. Now we just put his boots on and take them off before he comes inside.

We live in Minnesota where the winters are brutal. Freezing temps make even the paw pads of the most thick-haired dog burn and become frostbitten. Elvis, our Aussiedoodle, loves the snow and outdoors, but could only stay outside for short periods when the temps drop below freezing. These boots are the answer to making cold temps more comfortable. Best of all--they are easy to get on and they STAY ON! Just got them today and immediately went out on our lake in -3 weather. Elvis was running like a kid with new shoes and we stayed out for 30 minutes. He didn't want to come in, but his human was getting cold:( Money well spent!!

I have a 14 year old border collie with geriatric vestibular syndrome. I got these because he is having difficulty recovering his balance to the point where he can stand up in the house on our wood floors. For that purpose, they are great and far better than the ones from the pet store. He can stand and walk around on his own without falling down. However, they are always spinning around backwards, and the velcro strap goes across right at dew claw level. One dew claw has been irritated to the point of bleeding. So socks are mandatory with these, not optional. I'm using baby socks from Target, but I may look at replacing them with Thera Paws. They'll be about $100 for a set but they are designed for continuous use on injured paws. I would recommend them for occasional use and for constant use with socks but I think the only real way to avoid the spinny problem is to have a bootie that goes further up the leg.

Once he got over the fact that he was wearing boots and finished his boot dance he loves them.
I have only used them in the winter so far but they have worked great. The boots stay on if you really snug the velcro strap and do a great job of keeping the snow from building up between the pads of his feet while we are running. It took about 2 uses for my dog to associate these with going on an adventure. Now he goes crazy when I take them out of my pack and sits right down and gives me his paw to put them on. He has used these for everything from winter trail running to backcountry skiing trips. I didn't go with the winter specific model because these will be good for summer hiking trips on sharp and hot terrain too.
The only issues I have had were that if you don't realy sinch them down they will come flying off on a fast sprint and they are tough to get back on in the snow. Other than that, onece you get over the fact that you are buying shoes for your dog and figure out the sizing, they are great!

We took the boots and socks with us because we anticipated very cold weather in the Sierras, but daytime temps went up to 39 and 40. So we didn't want to go through the getting-used-to for our dog. If it gets colder, then we will use them, and maybe by that time, he will tolerate them. His pads were just fine this time.

When my dog first starting wearing them it was a really funny sight because he would high-step it trying to kick them off, but not for long as we went for a run a couple days later. They stay on really well and prevent the infiltration of water up my goldendoodles legs. Now I never have an excuse to leave him behind when I go for a run.
