        Perfect for everything from the gym to rappelling to outdoor top-roping. May want to invest in something with a high friction or auto-locking mode for more advanced stuff but this thing should still be clipped to your harness as a backup.

                I used these in my mountaineering and rock climbing classes, and I must say, it is very simple to use. Whenever going anywhere with a climbing harness, this should be attached to it.

                The simplicity of this ATC is what makes it so great. It has two slots, that's all you need. Some of the newer devices coming out have all sorts of the slots and ways to use it. The extra material adds more weight, which isn't needed.

                The only concern I have is not about the device, but about how much of a necessity it is. It's great to have, but mistakes do happen, and if you by chance drop it of the edge of a cliff on a multi-pitch climb. A munter hint would be nice to know. So I would recommend always have this ATV or something like it with you, and know have to tie a munter hitch so you can belay/rappel in an emergency.
