      Not a good product

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

I have two dogs that I needed PFDs for, so I bought this one and the RuffWear one as well to compare the two.

This one definitely lost that battle. As other users have said, the flotation part tends to slip back towards the dog's back legs, requiring some jury rigging with straps between the neck piece and back piece to prevent this. The flotation packs themselves also slip around side to side because they are not anchored to the neckpiece. I had this PFD on my 60lb Catahoula while he was retrieving sticks thrown into a lake, and it was constantly slipping to one side or the other, clearly unbalancing his swimming. It got to the point that it was sometimes making him hesitant to venture past standing depth in the water.

I will be taking advantage of REI's liberal return policy and trading this out for another RuffWear PFD. Save yourself the trouble and just buy one of those.

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

This is the third Dog PFD I have tried. The MIT underDOG is a great comfortable fit for both of my dogs ( Chance is a Cocker Spaniel & Marley is a Yorkie ),Both dogs ware them without any fuss. The PFD's adjust easily, and stay firmly in place even if the dogs are picked up by the handle on top. A firm, Snugg, comfortable fit are the most important features of a PFD for dogs. If the dog dosen't like it it will not work, they will fight it all day long.
Please make sure your pet is protected by a Pet PFD at all times, while boating on a lake or stream. I know most all pets can swim, But how far can they swim with out your help, or if they are injured! Thanks for reading! Ten 10 Nails

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

I got this for my 1 year old yellow lab Althea, for those days when she swims a lot to help her if she gets tired. It does the job, but there are a few things that could be fixed for a better fit. First is the sizing Ali weighs 70lbs and has a 27" chest but a skinny waist and the jacket has a tendency to slip back around her belly rather than under her chest where it is supposed to stay. Especially if she is jumping off docks into the water. We fixed the issue by using the yellow neck strap and running the front back strap through the loop in the neck strap. That seems to keep it up under her chest. It does slip around a bunch under her when she swims but she is a super strong swimmer and it doesnt seem to bother her. She likes wearing it and it does the job, it works better and is more comfortable for her than the typical ones that go on the back. Overall i like it and she likes it, we just have to do lots of adjustments from dock jump to dock jump, but for a less active dog or an older chunkier dog or even a dog who doesnt swim well i think it would be great, and you wouldnt need to adjust as much.

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

I saw this in the store, and thought I'd give it a try. The idea is nice, but the body section doesn't stay in place, and slides back, pulling the neck piece down, and making my dog look like his head is barely above the water. I finally got it to work by taking the neck loop and attaching it to the straps on the body piece. But overall its too much trouble. The body piece also doesn't stay even on each side, and ends up twisted. I tried adjusting it a million times, but I'll be taking it back. I don't recommend at all. Especially once you see how the neck part fits-I don't feel comfortable that my dog has enough range of motion.

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

I like this just fine, not having tried the other brand. Was looking for something that is not bulky because my dog Okie sits in the kayak with me. He's never worn a pdf before and he really liked it especially when we threw sticks in the water for swimming after kayaking. He usually (pre-pdf) paws at the water and gets a lot of water in his mouth but he had such a good time wearing this. He'd swim far beyond the stick and circle about then fetch the stick. It was nice to see him have such a great time! It also dried quickly[...]I decided on the Medium. Okie is a long, skinny Aussie (about 42 lbs)

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

My dog is 72lbs. He's a lab so loves the water (a great duck hunting retriever) but he's getting pretty old. He's been suffering occasional spams,so I wanted to make sure he had a life jacket when swimming. I liked the look of this dog vest and bought one. I had to adjust it a bit to make sure that the straps were tight across the back, but it fits fine. The neck part holds his head up. I like that. The chest part of the jacket protects his belly from re-bar and tree branches hidden under water when he leaps in. We have a lot of stuff like that in the lakes and marshes around here. It's a good product.I wish it came in camo.

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

Our mini schnauzer measures 9.5" neck, 17" girth, 15" long. He only weights 8 pounds (still puppy). The XS did not even come close to fitting. The entire jacket appeared below his body. It did not fit like the dog in advertisement. The next size up was S and it was more like two sizes up. I tightened all the straps completely and it was loose is every dimension. The smallest the S gets is probably 11" neck 21" girth, and 21" length. I liked the concept and the quality. It also had much more reflective material, but all the color and reflective stuff is on the bottom. I want the color on top so people see the dog in the water. Our dog is black and the top of this jacket is black - poor safety device as far as visibility goes.

Comments about MTI underDOG Flotation Vest for Dogs:

The product description states:"Traditional flotation vests pull dogs' hindquarters up and position their heads closer to the water; underDOG releases the neck and lets the head ride higher above the water"What it should have stated was "This device releases the neck and lets the head enter the water." I've used Ruff Wear PFDs on my dogs and have never had this problem. I tried the MTI Underdog PFD for my pup and nearly dunked her head in the water when I tried to lift her out by the handle. The way it is designed, you have the main coat which wraps around and is secured with velcro and straps. Then a adjustable strap that runs under the chest that connects the coat to a neck collar. (check out the image in the product detail) So when you pick up your dog by the handle on the coat, it will slip down to her hindquarters causing her head to be the last thing out the water. If there were another connecting strap that ran along the back to the neck collar, this might solve that problem. But I think it'll be better to stick with what works..and for me it's the Ruff Wear PFDs. I'll be returning this for a Ruff Wear.
