Comments about CamelBak Insulated Tube Director:
I recently bought this insulated tube, along with the Camelback Rim Runner pack (which is awesome by the way) and was excited to take it to the slopes of Vail, CO. What I found out about the insulated tube is that it connects easily to the new Camelbak reservoir, via the quick connect system, does not leak and freezes rather quickly in below 20 degree temps. The last point is an issue, since I wanted the insulated sleeve to help avoid the common practice of having to blow all of the water back into the reservoir, thus clearing the tube of water, after each sip. In the 17 degree temps of Vail, the tube froze almost immediately. Even with blowing the water out of the tube each time, and taking a drink every 5 minutes, it still froze closed. In my opinion, the insulted tube does little to help with "tube freeze" under these conditions. I wish I had just stuck with my standard tube and saved my $$ for something else. I guess my expectations were too high. On the bright side, the insulation seemed to also do very little when I took my pack into the lodge. The tube thawed very quickly, so the insulation didn't keep the cold in either!
