The technical Mountain Hardwear Direttissima 46 pack suits serious users hauling alpine or climbing gear on single or multiday climbs.
- Durable, comfortable and versatile Direttissima pack is a workhorse for 4-season climbing adventures
- Pack weight can be stripped to under 3 lbs. by simply removing framesheet and top lid, and swapping padded hipbelt for 1.5-in. webbing hipbelt (included)
- Alpine suspension offers stability, comfort and support; light and strong hollow-core center stay allows extra flexibility when climbing
- Removable framesheet provides support and keeps the back panel flat
- Compression-molded back panel sheds snow and enhances ventilation and comfort
- Top-loading main compartment features an under-lid rope attachment strap
- Hydration-compatible design features a reservoir pocket and twin drink tube exit ports for on-the-go hydration (reservoir sold separately)
- High-durability front panel resists damage from ice axes, crampons and rocks
- Compression straps with glove-friendly buckles secure your load, shrink unused pack volume and tuck away inside a front panel pocket when not in use
- Fully reinforced 3-point haul system, center daisy chain and ski loops let you attach alpine gear to the outside of the pack
- The Mountain Hardwear Direttissima 46 pack is made of a 315-denier SilSeal Cordura® body, Dyneema® polyethylene front panel and 840-denier ballistic nylon bottom

This pack is too complicated and some features are useless.
Zippered pocket that is on outside of the pack does not expend and can not be used once the pack is full, you can slide something thin but definitely not crampons or other bigger objects.
Side straps and buckles are made that way that you can not adjust them without a struggle.
Top packet straps are also not that easy to use.
It's not a climber friendly pack.
They overdid it.

The original waist belt is insufficient for loads >30lbs (the buckle slips) and it's annoying otherwise you get a "London Bridge" quality pack at half the price.

I've taken this to Jungfrau, the Schilthorn, and into Denali. This is as durable as it gets with double nylon stitching. But I had to order the "optional" waist belt. What's up with that?

The stitching on the pack is first rate with double stitching and nylon thread. Those Chinese really know how to sew and inspect for quality. I have no concerns about the pack's durability, the right nylon is used in the different panels.
So far the pack made it to the Schilthorn to watch the start of the Inferno and then on to Jungfrau (no thanks Eiger.)
The waist belt seems out of place on such a durable pack. It's like putting an outboard motor on the QE2. MH offers a heavier waist belt, but why did I have to order it separately?

I backpacked around India for 6 months with this bag. Not once did it let me down. No tears, no rips, frays - it's almost a miracle bag. It's been thrown around, beatup, strapped onto a donkey, it bounced around on top of jeeps, in the belly of busses, and tied to the side of a motorcycle for a week.
No tears, no rips, no frays. Now I'm a Mountain Hardware fan for life.
I've also got to mention the hip belt - I had walked for 20 miles with this thing and it still felt great. Friends had adjust, and re adjust their bags while mine felt right the whole time. It really took the load off my shoulders. I carried around 44lbs in it - I'm not even in very good shape and I was still able to trek 20 miles a day in it. I really can't endorse this product enough.

First id like to say the pack carries well its great if not overloaded but with minimal use the type of padding used in the hipbelt and shoulder straps is sqaushing down. Now if its form fitting or not i dont think this foam will out last the pack second i just cant beleive they went so cheap on the draw cords that the barrel locks snag the mantel and it pulls right thur the sheathing how cheap can you be let me see if they fix it under warranty forget returning it to rei

I've used several packs for day climbing in the Cascades, mostly Mt. Hood. This pack has everything I want: easy access from the back and top of the pack; side straps for skis; tough material that won't get beat up by my ice axes or crampons; and room for a hydration bladder.
It's the most comfortable pack I've owned and very easy to access with gloves on. Highly recommended!
