Comments about Osprey Zip 25 Pack - Kids':
I got this bag as a work backpack and as my "adventure" pack for day hikes and urban roaming. I was looking for side cinch straps, a front bungee for a jacket, exterior water bottle pockets, AND a laptop sleeve. I'm a pretty short woman (5'1") and wear an XS, so I took a chance on this kids pack and it's perfect!
The bag is really well designed. It has just the right amount of padding (minimal) in the straps, and an extremely comfortable, pretty rigid back panel to distribute the load. The only thing I could wish for is a longer front pocket (it's only 5" deep) and slightly thicker fabric (which seems pretty lightweight, but also perhaps not that durable, only time will tell).
I was a little worried about the color line because it looks like it's white and teal, but I'm happy to report that it's grey and teal, and likely to hide dirt as a result.
The laptop sleeve is big enough to hold my MacBook Air for work and my personal 13" Macbook. It will not accomodate a 15" laptop. The sides of the laptop sleeve are compressible (not rigid), but the whole sleeve is suspended off the edges of the stiff back panel, so the laptop is protected on the bottom and sides. It took a few tries to get used to prying the laptop out, but it's just a matter of getting the right angle.
There's also a slit pocket in front of the laptop sleeve that will work really well for a letter-size legal pad.
I also purchased two bags by Mountain Hardware that had the same exterior dimensions, but they were actually a lot bigger in profile than this bag.
