Comments about Osprey Talon 4 Waistpack:

I bought this for long distance runs. The straps in the front near your hips are thin and unpadded, leaving your hips sore after a while. The ventilation structure on the part that touches your lower back has ridges, which over a long run ended up wearing my skin away, leaving sores. The water bottles that are included are super cheap and leak all over your legs. Note that all of this is with running, they may not be too much of a nuisance if just walking. I would not recommend this for running.

Comments about Osprey Talon 4 Waistpack:

It's a quality pack, and the bottles are easy enough to access while running. However, I have to cinch it tightly on my guts to keep it from bounces. The more straight my posture, the more it bounces, so it encourages me to have bad posture. Probably true of all lumbar packs like this, but I haven't tried others.

Comments about Osprey Talon 4 Waistpack:

This is the pack I use for trail running for runs in the 10-20-ish mile range. It carries nicely and the bottles are easily accessible. The shock cord retaining system for the bottle could be improved on, but it works. It has decent room, you don't want to much load w/ a lumbar pack when running, this one is just about the max I'd use. It holds , an emergency blanket, windshirt, beanie, gloves and snacks in the larger compartment, small first aid kit, fire starters, keys, etc in the smaller one. The hipbelt pockets are decent size and hold a small camera or cell phone easily. I use one pocket to hold gels, blocks making them very handy to grab on the fly. The compression straps on the rear of the pack aren't very functional. Would be handy to have a shock cord lashing on the rear. All in all a nice lumbar pack.

Comments about Osprey Talon 4 Waistpack:

I'm a dayhiker and normally carry a day pack, but decided that I wanted something for those shorter hikes that don't require me to carry a lunch, rain gear, etc. that would be stuffed in a day pack. So I went to REI and tried on all of the waist packs. I'm a female and almost all of them were too big and with the straps cinced all the way, the packs still didn't fit snugly on my body. [...] I found this one actually fit, so I bought it right away.I used it 3 times during a weeklong trip taking daily day hikes. I liked the zipper pulls, the size of the pockets, the way the pack lets air flow between it and my body, keeping my back from getting too sweaty. I did not like the position of the bottles, which rubbed against my arms if I were not using trekking poles. I can imagine that if I were running and had my arms constantly bent at the elbows in "running mode" that it wouldn't be a problem, but for hiking or walking, my arms are mostly swaying back and forth.I returned this pack and bought a Camelbak waist pack, which I might also be returning (but that's a different review). The new pack does not have all of the "pros" that the Osprey one has, but it does solve my issue with the bottles rubbing against my arms since it's a bladder and hose type of pack. I'll try my new pack a few more times to see if perhaps I can live with its cons for the one pro that it has (so far).

Comments about Osprey Talon 4 Waistpack:

I use this when a full hydration pack is overkill. It allows me to carry plenty of h2o and has room for a few essentials needed for short day hikes. Overall another quality product from Osprey and REI.

This belt is NOT FOR RUNNING! The clipping lock on the belly scratches and chafes the skin. I exchanged it to CamelBak Delaney DC which seems to be designed much better.
