Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
I used this on a 5 night trip to Canyonlands N.P. and have never slept better. I've been looking for a pillow both lighter and more compressible than the Therm-a-Rest Compressible. With this, I've finally found my perfect backpacking pillow.
Some mild back and neck problems make a pillow an imperitive for me. I tried a couple air-filled pillows and found them too unstable. Trying the down pillows in strore, it was clear I needed the Large to have comfortable support and it's worth every one of the 7.6 oz's (compare 5.6 for Med, 2.85 for sm). I used the pillow flat when I was on my back and folded it in half when I rolled to my side.
Other reviewers report the pillow being too small and thin. They may have had a smaller size or they may simply prefer a thicker pillow. If you like a down pillow at home I think you'll love this one in camp.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
As others have said it is not a good pillow on it's own. I use this with my Exped Air Pillow and it is the perfect combination. Air pillows give good support but are not the softest to use. Adding this down pillow on top of it makes it super comfortable and will give you a great night sleep. It is a little pricey for a pillow system but it is worth it. I have also used it with a Big Agnes pillow and it was great too. With an air pillow and this pillow you won't be adding too much weight or taking up that much space in your pack so it is practical. I have found the medium fits the large Exped nicely, it is right about the same size. A large would allow you to close the drawstring around the pillow, but is not needed. I guess a medium Exped would work well with a medium down pillow as well but I have not tried this combo.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
Large Size wnen stuffed with sufficient clothes to make a decent pillow becomes 11x14 inches when the draw string is used.
This does make a pretty decent back country pillow.
The border from down compartment to drawstring is less than 2 inches. This product would be much better if that border was increased to a 3 inch width.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
This is a great pillow for backpacking.
The secret to using it is to stuff it with some of your clothing. In that way, the down pillow becomes a down cover for your stuffing material.
The pillow can be compressed by pulling the cord. When you do that a little bit, a pocket forms on the backside. This pocket it what you stuff with clothing.
I personally use my down vest inside the pillow and it is is great. The pillow only adds a few ounces to my backpack, and it is worth it.
On its own, this pillow is very flat. If you want to use it car camping and won't stuff it with anything, don't buy this. This pillow is for minimalists.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
It felt like a great idea in the store. I use a feather pillow at home and this one is 650 fill and compressed to near nothing!! Unfortunately, this one also compresses to nothing when your head is resting on it! :( !
I used it on a recent camping trip and it worked well as a topper to a stuff sack of clean clothes. By itself though, it was no comfort. Fortunately I did not run out of clean clothes to fortify the pillow.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
I purchased one of these pillows a long time ago in an airport during a long flight. It really isn't a spectacular pillow, it is small, doesn't have great support but it was fine for my needs at the time(air/car travel). Now I have 2 kids, and I've discovered that this pillow fits perfectly in my kids' REI Kindercone sleeping bags. Since I only had one, I've been looking for another and they have been hard to find until now. If you want to use the pillow on its own for an adult it probably won't be the best, but for kids to be used in a sleeping bag it works great.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Down Pillow:
I bought this pillow prior to a 9 day hike in the Smoky Mtns. and was trying to cut down on the weight and bulk of my pack. I purchased this without reading any reviews and I usually never do that. Now, I like a flat pillow, but this is too flat even for me. I love that it is small and lightweight, but it compresses down to almost nothing when you lay on it. I have returned it and replaced it with an REI pillow and we will see how that goes.
