Comments about MSR Backcountry Barn Tent:
So here's the thing: there's no rain fly. I know, it's all seam sealed and has the bathtub floor, but I have trouble trusting it, since the water rolls straight down the sides and not away from it at all.
I have only had mine in light rain, and there were no problems, but I can't feel confident that it works in a heavy rain. But it's MSR, I'm sure they thought of this.
My engineering critique aside: It's super roomy, I can stand in it. The removable floor is a bit of a pain when setup and teardown come, but it's nice that you can take it out and just have the ground as an option depending on what you're doing. I took out the floor to camp a few days at the racetrack on concrete, was glad I could bring the nice tent. Not exactly what this fancy tent was for, but it did great.
The removable floor does leave a gap that could (read does) allow bugs to get in.
In the end, I don't know if it's worth the hefty price or not. I got mine at an REI garage sale. For that price, I love it. For full price, I wouldn't have even considered it. But if you need a nice 3 season base camp that gets a lot of use, it would be a nice option.
