The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
Purchased tent for xmas finally had chance to use it.Set up solo is a little tricky but if you take time and put one side of poles in first than slide tent down poles it worked fine. I started by standing inside tent door working with front pole then walked around to back pole.Pay attention to arch in poles.Having the doors open to a large oval make load gear in and out so easy.Do suggest staking down helps with set up and tent is a wind sock with walls almost vertical.Only complaint I have is my tent was used by someone before me when opened and set up there was leaves on floor inside and hair in window and a smell that needed airing out, nothing against tent. Someone must have returned it.Was a little bummer but got over it with lysol spray.Havnt used in rain so cant coment on waterproof.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
I'm a little biased because I scored a killer deal on this tent at a Garage Sale (thanks to whoever returned it!). After a little TLC, the Hobitat 4 is perfect for my needs. I've used it as a pit tent for adventure races, car camping, and hanging out in the backyard. Being able to stand up in it was a necessity when using it as a pit tent. It fits 4 adults with one caveat - there's little room for gear. If you want to put 4 grown ups in here, but also keep your gear dry, I suggest getting the vestibule, or better yet the Garage. The connect tech garage is an awesome and worthy addition to this tent. Set up with one person is doable, but a second person makes it much easier. The mesh roof is great for star gazing on clear nights, and the rain fly gets the job done on rainy ones. There's nice mesh pockets in the corners to keep your little stuff organized as well. All in all a well designed and rugged tent. It's not for backpacking, but for anything else I'd highly reccomend it.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
After reviewing tents to death I finally settled on the Hobitat 4 from REI. I needed something from the wife and I to camp overnight for trail races and mountain biking. This tent is large enough that I can stand without any issue and I'm 6'1". It was also able to take our queen size aerobed and have extra space for two large gear bags. We will likely be purchasing the garage addition as well. I do not regret purchasing this tent in the least bit.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
My wife and I used this tent for weekend and music festival car camping and couldn't be happier. We use the Hobitat 4 with the garage which I absolutely recommend - especially if you are like us and sleep on a tall queen size air mattress. With the mattress, there is only a small space left for bags/clothes - so the garage is a must for us.
Rain fly worked great (once we got it on correctly) in a pretty heavy rain. It worked well to insulate on a cold night as well. I can't imagine having to put the fly on by myself though.
Pockets on the inside are handy for wallet, pocket knife, headlamp etc. while you sleep. Fabric loop in the center of the 'ceiling' is good for hanging a light or maybe even one of those battery powered fans.
my one knock would be that the footprint isn't the best fit and separates from the tent poles. We put the tent up in a hurry a couple times, so I am sure I will find a solution this summer.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
I am a Scoutmaster in a Boy Scout Troop and was looking for a tent tall enough to utlize my cot and stand up to get dressed in the morning. This tent has high vertical walls and thus met both of my primary criteria.
It's not as spacious as some other tents, especially once the cot is in it - but I sleep alone so it is a perfect size for my purposes. It is well-built and sturdy and I have no doubts, being an REI product, that it will serve me for many years to come.
I will say that setting it up by yourself is difficult, two people are better. That being said, if this is supposed to be a four man tent it's gonna be a snug fit...I haven't yet bought the 'garage' but plan to do so in the future.
It's not light so backpacking with it is out....I have a different setup for when we're on a hiking/backpacking trip so the weight doesn't bother me when we're car camping.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars (yet) is because I've only used it a couple of times so far and never yet in the rain or high winds.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
I've used the Hobitat 4 for family car camping for a few years now. It's hasn't been the largest, sturdiest, or easiest to set up, but it's quite good on all those counts. The 2011 version improves the tent in a few key ways: It's much easier to set up with one person, as there are three poles (reduced from four clumsily-placed poles before). The general design seems simpler and sturdier, although I've only done a test setup in my yard so far. The rain fly covers more of the tent and is much easier to put on. And the color-coding on the ground cloth and the tent itself has changed from the diagonal-sides coding to a more sensible orange-tabs-are-in-front, black-tabs-are-the-rear. I recommend this to any casual car campers who want a roomy but not luxurious (and heavier) three-season tent.

The tent was easy enough to set up however after one use some of the fabric and pole harness' stichting were already starting to pull away from the material.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
Although some say it is heavy it is not a mountaineering tent it is a spacious car camping recreational vacation tent. What makes it heavy is the center painted steel pole and the chromed steel stakes. The painted steel center pole could have been lightened up but I LOVE the steel stakes. How many time do you bend an aluminum stake trying to drive it into rock hard soil. I really like that it is tall. It has lots of ventilation screening which was important this summer. I really like the usefulness of the garage too. It gives you a nice place to sit out of the sun or rain and still have a dry entrance to the tent. The tent door will open completely and store out of the way above or open left or right depending on tents inside set-up. It can be set-up without the fly if the weather is right to give a very airy open feeling. Or use the fly for rain/wind protection and a bit more privacy. I like the color coded corner tabs. It makes it easy to set-up and since the garage opens in one direction for the awning to work it is good to know which end is which. I only wish they included lightweight aluminum poles for the awning. I needed to spend another $12 for poles to open the door as an awning.

Easy to set up and take down. Roomy and comfortable. Protected from heavy mist but have not used in the rain. Especially liked the placement of the various pockets which made it easy to access things without getting in the tent.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - 2011:
Easy set up. Yes, the polls are thin, but if you use the outer holes on the straps, you will not over bent them. The first time I set it up, I tryed to use the inner holes, but I noticed that there was too much bend in the polls. All it takes is a little common sence. I have used this tent on a few camping trips with my sons cub scouts trips and a few family trips. On all of the trips, we had all kinds of weather. From bright sunny days to half an inch of rain in one hour. The rain fly kept the inside dry. I also got the garage for this tent, and I could not be happier. It almost doubles the ammount of space to store you stuff. I am very happy with this tent.
I took a long time looking at tents before I chose this one. I needed something that was tall enough for me to stand up in. I still find myself bending over when I am inside just out of habit.
This is a great tent as long as you do not get too strong with the polls.
