Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
After using maybe only four or five times, the string that cinches the top of the bag shut completely came out. It didn't snap. it just came out. Now the bag is pretty much useless. Horrible rope bag.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
Good bag based on price and practicality. I use this bag to take my rope to a few walls around town. I like how you can stash your rope into the tarp and zip the bag over it like a cacoon Probably wouldn't be a good bag for lugging on hikes however. The shoulder strap slides around relatively easily. I have a 70m rope and its a bit of a tight fit.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
I bought this at the same time as a new rope. On the first day using it, the drawstring at the top pulled out from the inside attachment, and I was therefore unable to cinch the open end of the bag beyond just zipping it up.
Thankfully, I got it from REI, and switched it out for a new one the next day. However, in subsequent usage, I've found that the shoulder strap slips through the clips. As a result, I've had to tie them off, making it a pain to adjust to a different person carrying it.
Lastly, the pull-out tarp is actually quite small in comparison to other rope bags I've seen. It's difficult to keep a 60m rope from overlapping every edge, and in the interest of keeping your rope clean, I prefer a larger tarp.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
This bag works fine. It's not the best bag out there, the tarp can be considered small, which isn't a bad thing. Because my friend with the mammut rope bag has a hard time keeping dirt out of his. This bag does everything a rope bag is supposed to. The only con is that sometimes it's hard to get the rope to fit nicely, but I find that a technique of using your knee while packing to compress it from the side that really helps get the zipper up. It's a cinch once you find your own technique. After that, it's a great bag. Also, it helps to put your rope in a butterfly knot before being put into the bag, even if the purpose of a rope bag is to just be "stuffed"

So I dont know what is up with some of the other reviews on this. I work for National Geographic Expeditions and have been using (or should I say abusing) these for years. Not in climbing, but in canyoneering; which should say quite alot about the durability of the bag. I use it to coil ropes, and then throw them up to 200 feet of of cliffs. The only issue I had was with the little drawstring which shattered after a 100 foot throw directly onto rock. It survived hundreds of throws before that.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
My boss bought this bag for our climbing program when she bought a couple of ropes for us. I was glad when I found out it at least had a tarp on it, but I wasn't too crazy about the design of the bag. It works well for setting a top rope belay station, but it's not too efficient for sport climbing. the rope tarp is also not in a good position on the bag, so you can't use it for loading the rope into the bag very well. The strap has got to be the worst part of this bag because it's A: Uncomfortable, and B: has a useless adjustment buckle. The bag does hold a lot though, I was able to fit 70M of 12mm rope in it, and it's very durable as well.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
I got this bag late in the season, the most I did was load rope and taking it to the trunk of my car. I moved it in & out once to make room and the cording snapped. It felt like it was brittle.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
Shoulder strap wouldn't hold position, slips in clips. Snap closure won't hold, so zipper kept coming undone. And drawstring disconnected from inside sleeve rendering it useless on the first day, on the first approach using it. Holding 70m 9.6mm rope, spills out. Junk.

Comments about Metolius Dirt Bag Rope Bag:
the bag works great, holds 250' of 11mm rope, the profile is perfect (long and skinny) for my needs, includes a trap and loads with ease. i give it 5 stars because it fit my needs perfect, i needed a bag that hols about 200' of rope and can be strapped to the top or bottom of a pack and it does just that.
