Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I am not a fan of this type of loading in many of the modern packs, but my son likes it so that is all that matters for this pack. We bought it because it fit just so for him, going on some lone day hikes this spring. The back ventilation systems is really great, seems super durable even though lightweight.
Wish it had a few more compartments. And the price of these packs are way out of touch with reality...but oh well.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
Overall a great pack. I needed a larger pack for day hikes. I'm an avid photographer and tend to over pack. This pack fits everything I need for a long day out including my photography gear. The medium pack is right at the verge of being a bit large for me, I'm 5'6" and 135lbs. Typically with my gear and water I'm carrying about 25lbs to 30lbs, no problem. The pack handles the weight nicely and distributes it properly to the hips. Tons of attachment points, nice pull tabs on the zippers, good size stuff pouch, and a couple of smaller pouches. I gave 4 stars due to the sizing and the fact that I have only had the pack for a couple months so I can't speak on longevity. It definitely seems to be made very well. We'll see if it stands the test of time!

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I bought this bag hoping to use it as a day pack or fast overnight bag. It's definitely very supportive and very adjustable. I used it to haul some climbing gear a couple miles and the load felt great. However, my issue with it is that bag is overly curved. This means that if whatever you're trying to pack in your does not contour to the curve in the bag, you'll have odd protrusions poking at the sides. Shells, rainflys, and a bivy will go in fine, but tent poles, stoves, and a cook set are a pain to deal with. Unfortunately, I'll be sending this one back to try out something that is a little less curved.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I bought this pack for winter day hiking. I typically don't need a bag this big for summer or spring. Now that I've used "off-the-back" ventilated packs I won't use anything else.
Positives: Super comfortable. I tried both a M and a L at the store with 20 lbs. and the M was definitely the right fit (5'10" 165 lbs). The expandable bucket pocket functions similar to Osprey's outside stretch pocket but without the stretch. This space cinches nice and tight when empty and opened up nicely to fit my fleece for easy access. Organization, all the pockets add up to provide easy access to your gear. I've read some reviews that criticize the organization options, but between the side mesh pockets, vertical, expandable bucket, flap pocket and main compartment I was able to have quick and easy access to gear. I also didn't have much trouble getting to items at the bottom of the pack because the main flap opens enough to reach down inside. Even with a full 3 liter bladder I didn't have much trouble getting to my gear.
Negatives: The hip belt pockets are undersized. I wish they were closer in size to my Osprey Atmos and Osprey Kode. Hardly big enough for snacks, I've only used them for sunscreen and lib balm. If this pack could combine Osprey's hip-belt pockets, stow-and-go design for poles and their "outside in" Z compression straps this pack would be a perfect 10.
For it's maiden voyage, I stuffed it with lunch, full 3-liter bladder, down jacket, hard shell, rain pants, fleece, micropsikes, thermos, wool gloves, mittens, hat, goggles, and 10 essentials kit with room to spare. I love this pack and can't wait to use it more.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I've had too many day packs that were simply a sack with straps. Add much more than a sandwich and they just hung, uncomfortably, so I decided to get something with a frame. I tried 4 or 5 different packs at the Denver store, read some online reviews, and bought the Z-30. Some easy hikes this fall showed promise, but a long weekend hunt in Western Kansas really showed it's stuff. Everything I needed for a full day- ammo, water, food, shooting sticks, binoculars, range finder, and more dropped easily inside. Exterior pockets hold stuff that you may need quick access to. The adjustments on the suspension allows it to fit whether I had on a T shirt or a heavy jacket. The mesh panel keeps it off of your back, lets air circulate, and helps keep you dry. I carried it fully loaded for several days, daylight to dusk, from 25 to 70 degrees, with no issues, and no discomfort. It works.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I needed a pack that I could use in all different types of situations. I have used this pack for day hikes, canoe trips, off road biking, or even just simple over nights at a hotel. One thing that gets put into this pack more than any other object is my DSLR camera. The large opening for the main storage pocket is great for accessing my camera or any other bulky items. I am even able to access things that are under the camera without exploding my pack. I like to strap my smaller (lighter weight) tri-pod to the outside of the pack and it works great. This pack is very comfortable and a good amount of pressure is applied to the lumbar when the pack is weighted down. I have never had a problem with any zippers getting snagged, and there are many pockets all ranging in size to keep things well organized. Having the rain cover is a big plus as I have had this pack out in a couple of downpours and my camera has stayed completely dry. This pack is great and has plenty of storage capacity. I use it all the time.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
The main thing I love about this pack is the suspension system. Having that layer of air between me and the pack is worth every penny. The Z30 is well-built, big enough, and comfortable. The integrated rain fly with its own storage compartment rounded out the deal for me. Highly recommended.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
I use this pack to commute by bicycle. It's light and fits my needs. I appreciate the mesh back to keep cool. I like the external pocket for shoes or a bike lock (watch out, the external pocket has big drain holes so don't put small things in there). I wish the opening were easier to get in and out of.

Comments about Gregory Z30 Pack:
This pack will be great for day hiking, with plenty of space to carry both rain gear and lunch. It would also be a nice fast and light overnight pack if the weather is supposed to be nice and you didn't need to carry much. I have used this pack for the past week working in the field carrying my work materials and some emergency supplies. It performed flawlessly compared the daypack I tried before this one. The previous packs hip belt would not stay on my hips, which defeated the purpose of the hip belt, but the Z30 felt stable and secure the whole time. The Z30's compartments are also well placed and make it easy to organize and stay organized. Overall, a very well designed daypack that I am happy to have purchased.
