I've used my Kelty over the past few years for both rain and shade. The shape and variety of guyout points make configuration limitless depending on your needs.

Really, really, the best light weight shelter. Be sure to use bug juice. Great for backpacking. Fast, easy setup. I don't need to carry a tent any more. Just the tarp, a few stakes and my hiking poles.

          Comments about Kelty Noah's Tarp - 9' x 9':

I bought this to bring to a 4-day music festival where we camp, because the weather forecast was for relentless sun, so I knew we'd need some extra shade.

I was worried that setting up something with only four stake points and two poles would be tricky, and that it wouldn't be very stable. I secured two corners to our tents, simply by tying to the loops, due to limited space.

To my surprise, it only fell down one time, and after I adjusted the guyline clip, it stayed up solidly for the rest of the trip. One time I sat under it and watched someone else's easy-up shade go airborne while mine simply riffled in the wind.

I'm very happy with the Noah's Tarp. I plan to bring it on other trips this summer, even when I don't really need it, just because I like it so much!

            Comments about Kelty Noah's Tarp - 9' x 9':

I have owned it for about 4 years now and have never experienced any negative issues with this tarp. The only negative (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) is the lack of stakes. I am reviewing the tarp, not the stakes, but Kelty really could double the number of stakes to at least 8. I use MSR brand Ground Hog stakes instead of the flimsy ones that come with the tarp. I usually carry 8 on me. If you need more, just whittle a couple up.

When strung overhead, the Noah's tarp 9 covers my hammock, as well as providing a sheltered kitchen and small "common" area. I have used it configured as a wickiup style shelter with a single wood pole and stakes when we knew we couldn't outrun a bad summer storm on a day-hike. Yes I carry one tarp or another (among other "survival" items) every time I go off into the woods. It has kept me bone-dry in a 36 hour torrential downpour with 30-40 mph wind gusts. Granted however, It helps to know how to rig this tarp in multiple configurations ahead of time. It also helps to know 2 knots.. The Alpine Butterfly and the Double Overhand Sliding Loop. Both very easy.

Since 1984 I have been using Kelty packs/tents and their craftsmanship AND customer service are impeccable. Heck, I named one of my dogs "Kelty" after Dick Kelty. When I was in the market for a larger heavier tarp than the "Siltarp's" I use, I didn't hesitate to purchase a Noah's tarp by Kelty. They have been making these type products long enough to know how to build quality into the product. Attention to detail in the stitching, how the fabric is cut, plenty of guy-out points, waterproofing, etc.

I have never so much as popped a stitch, even while pulling the lines tight using Alpine Butterfly knots for tension.

In my opinion this is a piece of backpacking/camping equipment. It is not intended to be setup and left in one spot all summer long. If you do that it probably will get damaged. It's definitely not for the beach either.. We tried :(

If you hammock camp, and have ever woke in the middle of the night because your 5'x8' rectangle tarp is letting sideways rain get to you.. You will appreciate being able to stake the sides of this tarp tight to the ground. My Noah tarp is part of my year-round sleep system. I love it!

            Thanks for reading!

I was torn between this and the eno fly for my hammock. The Kelty was perfect. I used the loops to anchor the sides in a narrow space, had great spaciousness inside, and more versatility.

12 woul have been way too big.

Love this tarp. I use it as a dining fly or sun shade when car camping or on short backpacking trips. The shape help keep it taught and is easier to set up than a basic tarp. I use with the Kelty poles.

                    Comments about Kelty Noah's Tarp - 9' x 9':

I have been working on a new setup for hammock camping. I had tried other cheaper tarps but they were heavier and bulky, and unless I added grommets I could not pitch the tarp securely for the site. The Noah's tarp has been ideal, in that there are multiple points to attach lines. It can be easily secured to trees, roof racks, and larger tents to serve as an awning. I have tow of the smaller Kelty poles for help in creating awnings, or use as a "fourth" tree when several people need protection from the sun. I have also seen others online use tracking poles for different setups on the ground. I originally purchased the 12 x 12, but found it to be too large, so I exchanged it for the 9 x 9, which is ideal. This is one my favorite items now, due to its versatility.
