I strictly use this product while snowboarding, and it continually cuts out one ear or both. I have taken three back but like the concept of ease of control. It needs to be made solid state.

My main uses, for skiing / snowboarding inside my helmet. I am very impressed with this products performance!!!! The bass is very impressive for this speakers size and I am also very impressed with the volume level of this product. I have never turned the volume up above 1/2 way and it still is incredibly loud. I used ear buds for years and any time I would get any sort of speed I wouldn't be able to hear my music. These drop speakers eliminate any issue I had with that, and I like to go fast!
The only issue I have is more than likely a personal (sizing) one. After about an hour of wearing them my ears will hurt. Not from the volume level, but because they are pressing against my ears. I think it's mainly b/c of my helmet being at the low end on the size appropriate for my head.
It would be nice if the chest (mute) button paused the music instead of just muting it. However I realize that would be a little more complex. Overall, great piece of equipment. If you want to enjoy your tunes on the slopes, this is the way to go!

As with all Skullcandy items...buyer beware! I bought these new and installed them in my ski helmet, per the instructions. I didn't make it out of the parking lot before the right headphone started going in and out. I adjusted the cords and plugs all day and never did get consistent sound. These will be returned immediately.

Worked ok for the first month then the sound started dropping out of one side and the mute switch/volume control started acting up. Also the volume/mute switch is NOT water/snow proof, thankfully I bought it at REI and was able to return it and I picked up the REDphones from Burton, they seem to have made a better unit i.e,, water/snow proof controls and the speakers, wires seem like they will take a beating

Skullcandy changed the design of these headphones about 2 years ago. I have had both the old and the new ones, and the main differences are:

New: More comfortable (flatter), but cable in the middle between the 2 transducers.

BUT: There is a very easy solution to this: Ignore the manual and do the routing right!

Insert one of the transducers into the velcro pocket, then route the other one through the bottom adjustment plastic strip, under the label that has the helmet size on it, then through the other side of the bottom adjustment plastic strip. You now have plenty of cable to have the connector coming out of the intended hole of the other velcro pocket. Coil up any excess cable on that side and stow it next to the transducer in the pocket.

As to the cable - the mute switch isn't great. It's manufactured with some residues on the contacts, so spray a generous helping of contact cleaner into it and actuate the switch a few dozen times. No more static and no more drop-outs of the left channel. I have attached a video that explains this procedure.

As to the reviewer who stated these are 'mono' - they're not, they're most definitely stereo. They have over 70dB channel seperation, measured.

Should you have to figure out a routing that's different from the manual and should you have to use contact cleaner on the cable? absolutely not. But if you don't mind doing this, these things are a worthwhile purchase.

On a positive note, when my last cable finally broke after 2 seasons of abuse, Giro sent me a new and complete set of headphones, no questions asked.

Since these are 3.5mm (1/8in) connectors, you can also just use any cable you want, especially if you can do without an in-line volume control and mute button.

Description is lying, don't buy them!

First, they are mono. I cannot find any sign on these phones and when I plug them in and play with balance, there is no difference between channels. Second, the installation description is wrong. My Giro G10 helmet earpads have special holes for wires, however tuneup wires attach permanently to the plates so it is impossible to detach them and slip to the holes as stated in the manual. Third, wires are of the same length so the center piece hangs inconveniently under your chin.

Stay away from these tuneups if you want good sound and convenience.

My wife bought me these as a gift that were suggested to buy along with the Giro helmet. They never worked. It turns out it's because the supplied wire connecting to the earphones was faulty. It took me a year to find this out and replace it with a bulky wire from the electronics store. In addition, the bluetooth function did not work with any device. My android phone, an old iTouch, a new iTouch, or an iPhone. Without the bluetooth, they're too difficult to use full time while riding. I'd save my money and look for a different pair of headphones or use your own.

I'm not sure what was going on with all the other reviewers when they said that the connector hung in the middle, mine hangs as it should, to one side. And I had not trouble routing the wire inside the helmet from one earpiece to the other.. lenght of wire was adequate. Maybe Giro jumped on Skull Candy and got it straightened out.
The user has volume and mute control only... too bad it doesn't accomodate advancing tracks. I guess I should say that I'm not a smartphone user; My phone is a Samsung Rugby II. When I'm listening to music and a call comes in, it mutes the music and I take the call by pressing the "answer" button on my Samsung supplied adapter cord. The call audio through this system is my only complaint. The call audio is WAY low and hard to hear, especially if you're in-motion down slope. (But of course, taking a call while slaming down the slope probably isn't the best idea anyway!) Music audio is GREAT (considering the cost)! Base response is very good in my helmet (Giro G10).

Short version: These are decent which is good because they are pretty much your only option.

I'll start off by saying the sound is actually really good. Also, the speakers are practically identical to the similar Smith systems. So these will work in the same helmets as the Smith Twin-Tips and Smith Single-Shot. If you want the ability to hook up two devices or skip tracks then just buy the Smith stuff.

Otherwise, the previous reviews have covered it. They aren't very durable, the wire running between the speakers is a too short, and the jack is in a silly place. Why on earth is the jack right in between the speakers? Who would want it right there?

I have a Giro G-9 ski helmet and these work just great! I haven't noticed any problem with fit. I can wear my helmet for hours on end and don't feel any discomfort because of the speakers.

Sound quality is good. If you're looking for something that gives you Bose quality audio, these probably aren't for you, but if you just want to listen to your music these work great!

The cord has been working out for me just fine. it does meet in the middle (and if skullcandy was to redesign I'd hope to see the cord meeting off to one side) but I don't feel that hinders the use of the product at all.

There is a volume control on the cord which makes for easy volume change and quick mute, but I wish it also had the ability to skip tracks.
