Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

Great tent from a great company. Super lite weight, easy to set up. The rain fly works flawlessly and has been used in heavy Oregon rain with no leaks. Big Agnes is a world class company. I have two of their tents and a sleeping bag. All wonderful.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

I just returned from a 5 day backpacking trip through the Colorado Rockies and couldn't have been happier with my tent selection. Though this is marketed as a 4 person tent, be aware that you would have to defy the law of physics to fit more than 3 sleeping pads in this tent; we used it to house 2 people and it was very comfortable with all our gear inside the tent. I purchased a Big Agnes gear loft separately that we used to hang clothes to dry inside the tent as well. The tent body + rainfly + poles + stakes + loft came to less than 5 pounds which was amazing considering the quality construction, ease of setup, and the amount of room we had inside. Plenty of room to move around, sit up, change clothes, etc. All in all an awesome tent that is very light and worth every penny.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

Upon doing some research and going to multiple stores to look at different tent designs, we finally made our decision. This tent is very lightweight. However, it doesn't pack up that small but smaller than our old one so we went with it. We are only 2 but chose the UL4 so we could fit comfortably with all of our gear inside as the vestibule isn't really big enough to fit 2 packs and yourself when trying to get out.
We got stuck in a downpour while setting up and everything got wet. including the tent. We were very happy with how fast the setup was and didn't have a problem with moisture or condensation throughout the night. The fly however did not line up and no matter how far out we pulled the guy lines, there was always a spot that wasn't taut. I also got wet coming out of the tent in the vestibule because as soon as you unzip it, the water drips down.
This tent is supposed to be a 3 season and we went out last week in it and were very cold. Because the whole tent is mesh, all the warm air would escape and cold air blew in. On the way home we stopped for a last canoe on the lake and decided to camp out the night. We couldn't even set it up because the ground was too hard to push the stakes into. We are opting for a versatile 4 season thats free standing and have returned this one already.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

These Fly Creeks really are amazing tents. Technology these days is tough to beat. I agree with other comments that this really isn't a 4 person tent. I couldn't imagine 4 adult men sleeping in this tent in anything other than a pinch situation. This is why I gave it a 4 star rating. As a 3.5 person tent it's a 5 star.

I've used it for 2 adults, 2 small children (say up to 10) and a dog and we were reasonably comfortable. The adults were pushed up against the slopped walls a little more than I would like, but for the weight when Mom & Dad are carrying other kid gear, hard to complain...

Construction is solid, it goes up really fast, and poles seem sturdy. The poles can seem a little bulky as one big bungee system when broken down, but I wouldn't agree with the other comment that they "gave up" on the poles. This is a 3+ person tent after all.

I recently used it for 3 adult guys. Having just a few extra inches of room for each guy was nice. Worked very well for this purpose and the vestibule had just enough room for our 3 packs and a path to get out for a nightly pee.

I do agree with one other note in that the tent could actually use two guy-outs on each side to make it easier to pull the fly away from the mesh of the tent. This would help with condensation management. But not a deal breaker. Just takes some effort to stake out with the proper end result.

Final note is that the reflective guyouts were cool. Easy to spot tent in the dark and kids really liked the effect.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

We used this tent for 72 nights over the summer of 2011. Confortable 2 person tent - perhaps 3 in an emergency. No problems - stood up to a lot of rain and some windy nights. The ground sheet is poor and it is not really waterproof ... will replace the sheet. I own 4 ba tents and like them all. Be aware of sundamage if left out too often - one of my ba tents literally fell appart after 150 nights - but at the low weights of these tents a shorter life is to be expected.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

I bought this trip for a trip in Italy with the family. We car camped in it for ten days and then the kids and I hiked with it for ten days. My wife and I have a teen and a tween. We can all fit in this tent but it is tight. The kids, when given the option decided to sleep in the car rather than the tent; this may reflects their age rather than just the tent was small. When it was just me and the two kids it seemed very pleasant even on a very hard rain day where we had damp clothes and mostly read played, cards and ate chocolate. The size issue is all in the width. I am 6'- and length was never an issue.

Quality. The tent really is both small and light when packed. The tent sets up well; the one pole is near art. It kept us dry even with a person pressed to the side. Good entrance and exit and storage. At a pound a person a real pleasure.
At the same time I do not have the same confidence in it that I do our Halfdome4 or the Quarterdome UL2. After 15 nights in it, it has a couple small tears. The tent is made of such light materials that I am a little fearful for its longevity. It is a great design but in order to get it this light it seems you have to be very careful with it. We will continue to use it but for big trips rather than the overnight-camp-with-the-dog-sleeping-in-the-tent.

Our ten days hiking at the end of a 6 week trip would not have been possible with a heavier tent. If you need the light weight and are willing to pay the price it is a very cool tent but you will want to be careful with it.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

I rated this at 3 stars due to it being a very light and compact-able tent. It also works great as a kite.
The major downfall that I had with it is the fact that collecting condensation would be an understatement, in that by morning we (2 people) had created little puddles on our gear by morning. If you wished to pack it up dry we also had to wait for a few hours. The side of the rain fly was difficult to stake out away from the main body enough so that water would properly drain away from the tent. Even though this was an issue, leaking was never one. The pole system is also disappointing in that it is bulky compared to that of the rest of the tent. It almost seems as if they put all of the effort into designing the tent, but when they got to the poles just gave up.
The condensation issue might have been due to humidity levels or lack of wind to flow air enough to prevent it from building up.
For the price that it was, it is not worth keeping and I will be returning it. I would however recommend it to a friend who may have better luck than I did with it.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

I was totally pumped about the purchase of this tent and don't regret it. I am absolutely pleased with the weight, materials, and construction. Pack size, weight, materials, and construction all seem top notch. I especially like the poles and stakes. The only caveat is that it's four person rating is a bit of a stretch. I cannot fit four backpacking mats side by side inside without overlapping. This should be a requirement to be claimed as a 4P. That having been said, It is still a very light and high quality 3P.

Comments about Big Agnes Fly Creek UL4 Tent:

[...]set it up in the living room to see just how big it was. I'm impressed with the light weight, but I have to say that its a 4 person tent alright, but for boy scouts... I had myself, 6'1", my girlfried, 5'3", and kids 11 and 9 all lie inside and the people on the edges were pushing up against the wall. The length is good though and one of the kids may try sleeping at the foot to gain some room. There is no way 4 adults could fit. The quality looks top notch and the weight I got on my food scale was 4.57 lbs with everything including the stakes. The material seems thin but strong and I might consider a footprint.Overall I like it because I save over 3 lbs in weight. I just wanted to warn people that its not going to fit 4 adults.
