Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

I bought this watch for the functions it has, which are a great pro to the watch. My intentions were to use it in the feild but with being around electrical equipment and metal structures all the time I have found out that it is very inaccurate due to the interuption when using the compass function(The manual explains this when reading about the compass functions). I have yet to test it while out in the bush but when I do I will update with another review. I have a few buddy's that have the same watch and say it performs as intended from factory when outdoors so without any doubt it is a great watch, just keep in mind if you buy it for field use you will be dissappointed. The temp. is accurate to the degree, keep in mind to get the exact reading you have to have the watch off your body for up to 30 minutes but performs well. The timer, stopwatch and alarm functions work very well. All in all if your an avid outdoorsman like myself than spend the coin, it is definately worth it.

Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

Number of features is staggering! And all are useful - especially barometer as a gauge of weather change. As great as the watch is - and it is - it pales to the service by REI in getting it for me! I could not find this model anywhere - [@] - you name it, I tried it. So I called my local store, who did not have it either...but they checked all of Texas and then the rest of the US. Finally they located it at a store in Illinois and shipped it to their (my) locale for free. WOW!! I can't say enough about my REI experience. That has won a full-time customer.

Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

I had to write a review to counter the 1 star num nuts gave. I did not even read his review.

I have had this watch for 2 years. Yesterday I was camping with my friend at an elevation of 6840 ft (NOAA); my watch ranged from 6780-6860. The NOAA said we had a 40% chance of snow. barometer fluctuations on my watch were minimal so I expected no snow. And what do you know there was no snow. NOAA said low 30 degree F. Watch said 26 low. The tempature does not work if it is on your body duh. You have to leave it in your tent of something if you want real temp. I never really use the compass on it, but I have checked it with other compasses and they have related directions.

So, what I am trying to say is this watch does what it says it will do.

Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

Bought for the Altimeter function. Showed I was 450-500 ft off during 20 spot checks. Called Technical Support and after 25 minutes they told me that I would have to calibrate everytime I used it which would require me to know what my altitude is. To sum it up, you would have to carry a second altimeter to calibrate this one. I am sure the rest of the watch functions are fine but I am not sure I trust them now. I did a lot more research (after the fact) and saw that the alimeter is very inaccurate compared to other brands.

Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

I had been looking at watches that could give me temperature, barometric pressure, altitude and of course tell time. I decided on this watch over the Suunto because the face was actually a little smaller as well as the price.

So far I have been very pleased. If I set a starting elevation it stays fairly accurate throughout the hike as long as there isn't a storm front moving in. Since the altitude setting is based on pressure any major changes can throw off the readings. I really like that it has 2 auto recording sets for min, max, total ascent, and total descent. This allows me to keep track of the total trip on one and daily values on the other that I can record and reset daily. I also like the manual recording for recording elevations of trail forks or campsites.

I own a Brunton ATC that I have carried on some longer trips because it will give the storm alert and things like that. This watch does a good job of showing the changes in pressure, but I do wish there was a way to set an alarm if the change exceeds a certain amount in a given time. I also wish that the thermometer was a bit more reactive. It does take a few minutes for it to adjust once you take it off your wrist. The big think I like over the Brunton is that the ATC just eats batteries like crazy and this watch is solar charged. So far since receiving the watch in the mail it has never dropped below a high charge.

The compass is fairly accurate for what you would find on a watch. I compared it with my ranger and for just generalized directions and bearings the watch works pretty well. If I am route finding with the use of a map I will use the compass for that, but the watch works well just to make sure you are heading in the general direction.

The sunrise and sunset data is pretty handy as well as all of the alarms and timers. I do wish that you could just set an alarm based on the sunrise or sunset, but that isn't a big deal.

The manual for the watch is pretty hefty but after a while you pick up all of the things you need to know to use the features that you use the most. I usually carry a compass and a gps so I really haven't played with a lot of the compass features but the altitude and barometric pressure features have been great.

Comments about Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1 Multifunction Watch:

This watch does it all. I've used it backpacking in Estes Park, Glacier National Park, Pictured Rocks and the list goes on. It's nice for altitude, high/low pressure systems, temperature, sunrise/sunset, world time, count down, alarm, and 1,000 other features. The solar power part is awesome because I am tired of watches dying. This watch can go 6 months without any light; that includes any artificial light (lamp).

This watch does it all. My favorite feature is the sunrise/sunset so if your on the trail you know how much time you have to get back to camp. To determine the sunrise/sunset you put in your latitude/longitude.

I wear it at the office everyday and every time I go hiking. It's a perfect watch overall.
