Comments about Atlas 1235 Snowshoes:
I am 6'1" and weigh 225 pounds. I a member of a search and rescue team and was looking for a rugged snow shoe that would be very dependable in the backcountry. I needed something that was lightweight, very tough, quick to attach/detach to the boot with the potential to float me on powder as well as grip the ice as I cannot predict the terrain I might be deployed into and have to be self sufficient with a lot of gear to carry. I had originally looked at the MSR Evo Ascent models that most of our team use but had been encouraged to consider this shoe given my larger size and weight. We conducted our annual avalanche training in the backcountry this year under moderate conditions with a few longer descending sections of steeper powder. Three of the four rivets holding the white binding straps to the outside red frame broke on the pair of snowshoes. My bindings slid forward on both shoes and I could not slide them back nor repair them in the field. I was wearing a 50 pound pack for a total weight of approximately 275 pounds which is within the specifications of this model. I am very thankful this occurred on a training mission rather than an actual deployment. I do not trust the design of the attachment of the binding for emergency conditions as this failed after one weekend of moderate to hard use. I will be going with the MSR Lightning Ascent instead. I felt the attachment system for the binding to the boot was fast on and off and easy to use even with gloves on which is well designed but the attachment point of the binding to the frame is definitely underbuilt for a person my size with a pack on using them on steeper terrain where the forces are higher. I found myself fishtailing and sinking in toward the toe quite a lot as my weight was well forward of the center of shoe. I had much more difficulty than other members of my team with this design and could not figure out why I was struggling so much. I was really frustrated as I had spent a lot more money on them and I was quite disappointed. After the breakage I could not utilize the pop up ascent bars under the heel either as my boots and bindings had slid so far forward. I would not depend upon these if you must trust your life or others to them in the backcountry. If you are walking on flat groomed trails with packed snow they will probably function very well. If you are a bigger person carrying a heavier load and generate higher forces on the rivets you will likely break the heads off and slide forward like I did. A failure rate of 75% of the rivets under 1.5 days of use with a brand new snow shoe of this cost is very poor. If you are a larger person and will generate higher forces and need them to be there for you in more extreme conditions I would definitely go with a different design.

Comments about Atlas 1235 Snowshoes:
My first trip with these snowshoes was climbing Mt. Skylight in the Adirondacks. The trail had 18+ inches of snow in some parts, and these shoes did a great job. They are lightweight, and can take some serious abuse.

Comments about Atlas 1235 Snowshoes:
I've taken these snowshoes on several shorter hikes to get used to them and finally gave them a real test on a 20+ mile snowshoe trip up South Sister.
First great things are the bindings. On the south sister trip, everyone else had MSR Evo's. they took a good 4-5 minutes to take their snowshoes on and off, while I could get in and out in under a minute. They are quick, easy, and doable with one hand and heavy gloves on.
Going up 30+ degree slopes they performed really well. I was able to kick good solid steps even into slush and the televators really saved my calves.
My only minor complaint is that the tails are so long that they make descending in mushy or powdery snow very difficult. I fell repeatedly on steep sections when my tails started sliding. I suspect this has a lot to do with my technique, and I will learn to compensate or even "ski" down on my tails, but all the other people on their MSR's went down steep slopes much easier.
I had some trouble glissading with these because they are so long that they would drag in the snow when secured to my pack the usual vertical way, so I had to find a way to secure them horizontally. On shorter slopes I was able to overlap my toes and sit on the sails and glissade down that way what a blast!
Other than the paint, these shoes show no signs of wear despite crossing logs, gravel, and even some rocks. They are tough as nails. All in all I love these shoes!

Comments about Atlas 1235 Snowshoes:
I have worn about 8 different snow shoes over the years. When researching different models to purchase a pair this year, I studied a lot and purchased three different 'finalist' models. The Atlas 1235 was *far and away* the best of the bunch, including the 'sexy' top-of-the-line MSR Lightening series, which I expected to like more. The Atlas 12-series have an OUTSTANDING binding. Comfortable, easy to get on and off, and stable. Hands down the best binding I've ever used on any snowshow or similar product. I LOVE these snowshoes, use them often.
