Comments about Zamberlan 760 Steep GT Hiking Boots - Women's:
I bought this boots for the John Muir Trail and I was thoroughly impressed. They were incredibly comfortable; I usually get into camp and yank my boots off immediately but I could have kept these on for a while. I had super-minimal blisters (ONE) the whole trip. Traction and support (for a 40+ lb. pack) were great. I wore fairly thick socks and thin liners with them and that seemed to work best as they do fit a little bit big (but not enough to buy a smaller size than what I normally wear). Two thumbs up.

Comments about Zamberlan 760 Steep GT Hiking Boots - Women's:
I got these boots in the fall of 2011. I have 2 other pairs of Zamberlan boots that I love and were fabulous for my hiking & backpacking trips in Glacier, the Pintler Wilderness and hunting in national forest areas. Now the old Zamberlans are retired to non-pack days. These boots are higher than my previous Zamberlan's. This is definitely a plus, especially with the added weight/gear of a multi-day backpacking trip. My last backcountry trip before these new boots, I felt I needed more support, or a lighter pack. My oldest Zamberlan's tread is worn down, and the second pair had over 600 miles under them. These new boots are the greatest, due to the higher ankle support plus vibram sole. If you enjoy backpacking & being outside, and want the best equipment for comfort, you will get great enjoyment on your outings with these awesome boots.

If you own some of the LL Bean Wicked Good Slippers, then you will most definitely know how confortable these boots are from the first try on and on the trails thereaftter. I usually wear a women's 8.5-9.00 but the 9 felt short in the store. I tried on the only pair of hiking Zamby's for women at REI Sausalito, to do just that, size. They were not the same model but I figured the same sizing would still be relevant. So I onlne ordered the boots I wanted in a 9.5. These perfectly accommodate Thorlo mid heavy hiking socks very well. After the down hill trails there was no boot bite what so ever. The toe box is very roomy without being loose on the foot. The lacing adds to the secure the ankle on steep, slippery, loose gravel parts of terrain. This makes footing very confident and natural. REI you really need to carry more of the women's Zamby's. (I saw several mens' Zamby's BTW) Yes, Zamby's are more expenisve, but the comfort, traction and easeabaility is worth every penny. Thank you to the Itallians for making these. My only slight quible is a pinch under the tongue on my shins. Overcoming a serious orthopedic injury has kept me off the trails for a number of years. For not having seriously hiked in a while, in real boots, and not ever having a high styled tongue before I am just not used to it. After my first trial hike of 3.5 miles I was noticing my sensitivity to be disappearing. I also had made a lace adjustment which I am sure also benefitted. Yes, I need to refamiliarize myself to all those nuances again. Happilly. I do know there will be no mole skin, double socks, corn pads and other tricks of the trade that my old school steal shank Asolo's warranted. BTW I love having no steal shanks! It is positively grand to be hiking again in these new styled boots! Happy Trails! Tip: use your dividend and coupon for this purchase...

I have done about 25 miles in these boots so far and I love them. Totally worth the price. Really, really comfortable out of the box even with the obvious sturdiness of the boot. They have great ankle support for rocky/ uneven terrain with a 40+ lb pack. I haven't had any blisters, although I did get a couple of hotspots on my toes during a long downhill stretch, but I tightened up the ankle laces and put on some moleskin and I was totally fine. These boots have a nice stiff sole, just enough to make uphill trails easier but still comfortable to walk around town before and after the trip.

I was very hesitant about spending so much money for these, but after abusing my feet working in Alaska last summer I knew I needed a quality boot. I just took these backpacking for the first time- a 3 day trip in the mountains of North Carolina in March. The trails were very rocky (relative to most trails in the Appalachians) and it rained. A LOT. My feet stayed completely dry and I felt incredibly stable carrying a heavy pack over slippery rocks.
I have no blisters or pain after wearing them for this first trip. They are amazingly comfortable and sturdy, yet they are also much less stiff than many boots I tried on. I was worried I wouldn't like wearing real "backpacking" boots because in the past I always ran and hiked in very flexible shoes, but these hit the perfect balance.
I have every confidence that they will continue to be great when I wear them on more taxing terrain.
They fit a little big, but since I usually wear thick socks I was ok with this. I got them in the size I normally wear.

This is a great boot for hiking/backpacking. I used them all over Alaska in various types of terrain rocky to soft tundra, it always kept my feet dry and warm. Good ankle support and sturdy for any terrain. Also good traction on snow. The men's version got the backpacker 2010 review for best boots. I found that they run a little big, I usually wear a size 7.5 and had to get them in a size 7.
