Comments about Badger All-Natural Unscented Face and Body Sunscreen SPF 30 - 2.9 fl. oz.:
This is the perfect sunscreen for those weekends when you want to stay at home and read a book. Inside. Go ahead, slather this thick sludge all over your pasty flesh. It won't protect you from the sun, but you'll feel equally greasy and sanctimonious.
I took this on a ride with my brother today. We have the same skin, as we were spawned from the same womb, from the same seed. He put on a generic store-brand sunscreen before we left the house. I took Badger with me and applied it periodically through out the day (with great difficulty as it is so thick that even if you are strong enough to squeeze it from the tube you still have the arduous task of smearing it on your exposed bits). My brother never reapplied sunscreen: one application first thing this morning. Who looks like the neon logo for Red Lobster tonight? Me. I got pan seared today. Badger was the butter.
I would love to use a string of expletives to describe how I really feel about this product, but I know REI edits these reviews. So, dear reader, heed this warning: Do not trust this product or place faith in their adorable mascot and their puffed up ecological claims. It's all a ruse. Or should I say 'rouge'.

In cold weather had to step on the tube to get anything to come out. Then it wouldn'y rub in. Smells terrible. Stains clothes. Gonna be returned!!!

-Didn't work! Still got badly sunburned
-Very thick, even if mixed well
-Very hard to rub in
I purchased both this and the sport Badger sunscreen for a trip to the Galapagos Island with friends. My girlfriend and I used the Badger sunscreen and the other companions had the standard commercial sunscreen. After five days of using the Badger products myself and girlfriend were completely lobster-red sunburned. As in- cooked, fried, baked .... We were applying it 4, 5, 6 times a day, before and after diving, and the burns kept getting worse. Unfortunately, it is very thick and painful to have to rub in to extremely burned skin. Luckily we were able to switch up to regular, commercial sunscreen before the sunburns were too bad and impacting our trip. Our companions had no issues at all with their non-Badger products.
It's a shame because I was stoked about the all-natural, low environmental impact qualities of the badger brand. Its possible we just had bad batches since other reviewers had good experiences.
I would definately test this product before taking a trip to make sure it'll work properly.

I bought this product because it said on the label that it contained non-nanoparticle zinc oxide. When I got it home, I searched in Consumer Reports magazine. Their chemists found that the product DID contain nano-particle zinc oxide. So...it went back to REI.

The ingredients are more natural and don't worry me like some other sunscreens. I used to use Aloe Gator Gel 40+ but I began to be concerned about its ingredients. Badger unscented spf 30 gives me less, but adequate, protection.
To me it seems to rub in easily, and it's oily, but not too bad. I think it would protect more if I didn't rub it in as much and left myself looking more corpse or mime-like. I might do that at the beach sometime, but not walking around. After a half-day, it seems to dry my face out a bit, so I re-apply or remove it.
This stuff doesn't separate as mentioned in some other review - maybe they improved it. I don't even have to knead it. With some other brands of zinc oxide-based sunscreen, even with kneading it, it would still be part oil and part cream. Badger tends to clot, but this can be cut way down by not letting air suck back into the tube and by keeping the tube standing on its cap.

I am a sunscreen "Sergent" and have tried just about every product on the market to prevent my children from significant sun damage. This product is the BEST product I have found (I also like a zinc and titanium dioxide powder but it can irritate contacts). It is true that it does not rub in well (thanks to the zinc you will look white) and it does separate in the tube as the other reviews indicated. My family has sensitive skin and acne but we did not have any acne breakouts. If you or your children love the outdoors with full sun exposure this prevents a burn (try getting the kids out of the water to re-apply). We routinely travel to the Caribbean and may spend 8 hours in direct sunlight/water with fair-skinned individuals and children (blond hair/blue eye) wearing SPF 50+ clothing and hats. This product is not pretty but my goal has always been to prevent skin cancer in my children by preventing sunburn now and at some point you have to realize it is not a fashion show. Now if you are out there to look gorgeous now (and suffer wrinkles, "sun spots" and skin cancer later) then this product is not for you. I highly recommend this product even with the aforementioned difficulties.

After seeing so many positive reviews on this product, I purchased two tubes for my family's trip to the beach in Mexico.
Immediately, we were put off by the difficulty rubbing the cream and the unpleasant smell; the best we found that we could expect was to have a gray haze on our skin.
After 4 days, two members of our family developed quite a case of acne on our shoulders, arms, chest, and back. The other two family members only used the badger product for a couple of days before switching to another brand - they were spared the breakouts.

I'm a professional gardener as well as a hiker and I've been using this sunscreen for three or four years now. Yes, it makes me look pale, but the advantages are worth it. No chemicals, very effective, and the effectiveness doesn't diminish if you don't use it all up in one year. Some people might find it greasy but it doesn't seem much different than a lot of skin moisturizers to me.

After checking out the EWG sunscreen study, I decided to find a higher rated facial sunscreen and opted for Badger.
The sunscreen offers great protection and is sweatproof. I've run 23 miles with it on and didn't experience any running or stinging of my contacts. On the downside this sunscreen feels very heavy and oily on, much more than the Bullfrog I used to use. Also, for anyone with a medium to darker skin tone, it requires a lot of rubbing in to avoid the mime look. Lastly, the sunscreen seems to come out of the tube separated - the thick lotion/cream and a yellow-ish liquid; due to the consistency of the sunscreen it's virtually impossible to shake or blend it to stop this.
In my research, I noticed a lot of complaints about the lightly scented version; the unscented version has a "smell" but I don't find it bad or overpowering at all.
