Comments about REI Down Booties - Women's:
I wear these every day around the house and they are wonderful. The best house shoes I have ever owned. Very comfortable and cozy. I refer to them as sleeping bags for my feet. ;o)

Comments about REI Down Booties - Women's:
Bought for my daughter for a winter trip. Kept feet toasty in the sleeping bag and around campsite. Sole is not good for campsite roving. Too soft and not durable. Priced right and did the job.

Great for winter back packing. They warm your feet right up after a day in ice cold boots.

These booties are everything that I expected them to be. They are soft and warm and cozy. Equally good for curling up in front of the fire or taking the dog outside in the snow.

These are perfect for wearing around the house. They are not meant to be worn outside because the sole would get torn up quickly, but inside they are perfect and keep my feet toasty.

Comments about REI Down Booties - Women's:
I have chronically cold feet and travel regularly. Recently I spent 5 days a University working on some specialized analytical equiptment which was kept in a chilly room (so the machine did not overheat). The machine could not have street shoes worn into the room and so I spent the week with freezing cold feet and piling on every pair of socks I had packed. Afterwards I decided I needed a pair of slippers I could pack and take with me for trips (I travel a lot beside this trip). I have nice sheerling slippers at home but they are too bulky.
These slippers are perfect for travel as they compress much smaller than most house shoes but are very warm. They are like a cold-weather sleeping bag just attached to my feet. They actually do better at keeping my feet warm than my $100+ slippers.
The only complaint I have is that the soles are very thin however if they were thicker they would not be as easy to pack. I do not wear them outside (the sole is just too thin and that would mean I couldn't take them into the clean-lab).

The kids stole ours and we had to buy more. The whole family wears them now. Great around the house; nice and warm.
Bottom appears to have 1/4" foam pad covered with a polyester weave. Women's small weighs 9.9oz for the pair, so a little heavy for hiking; lighter ones can be found.

I bought these for my wife for indoor use because her feet are always cold and for occasional runs to the mailbox in winter. She LOVES them!

Comments about REI Down Booties - Women's:
These work pretty good in some situations, and badly in others, so I've tried to break this down into the good and bad.
THE GOOD---------
Very low price, (although it is only 450 down)
Extra room for socks, (you will need it as the lining will make your feet sweat)
Warm in environments that aren't too cold to begin with, (in a home or cabin that is only moderately cold)
THE BAD-----------
The bottoms wear out incredibly fast, even just walking on carpet at home.
The sizing is a bit weird. Feels a tad short, but really, really, really wide.
The width where your arch is, is much, much wider than the toe box, so your toes won't have as much room, but your feet will likely slide.
Elastic at ankle can be constricting
For me, these were adequately warm (with thick hiking socks) to about 40 degrees. Without socks, they aren't nearly as warm. They are not meant for hiking in very cold weather, or mountaineering in winter.
BEST USE
Perfect for lounging around the house if you feet get cold, just don't walk around in them too much! These actually perform more like slippers than down booties, as far as warmth goes. Not enough down to keep your feet warm in mountaineering. In colder weather when camping/backpacking, you will need at least 1 pair of thick wool socks to keep your feet warm, in addition to these, so plan on this when considering sizing. They work ok as long as you realize these are best used at home.
