Comments about crankbrothers Egg Beater 3 Pedals:
Recently bought these pedals, and I'm extremely glad I made the purchase. They are easy to install, drastically increase pedaling efficiency, and are built to last.
I also bought the Giro Carbide Bike Shoes, and they work perfectly with these pedals.

Comments about crankbrothers Egg Beater 3 Pedals:
Training for my first cyclocross season, I initially started off with a pair of crank brothers candy pedals borrowed from my commuter bike. Finding the platform of the candy's to be a bit obtrusive (esp. when needing to clip-in for a hard start), I decided to give the egg beaters a try.
So far, I've really enjoyed the platform-less design of the egg beaters. I've noticed that I can clip-in at almost any angle.
I'm using a 15-degree release angle (the other option being 20, I believe). During cyclocross practice, I've had the pleasure of unexpectedly (through falling/flailing) unclipping multiple times. Each time, I've been able to unclip without issue.
The mud/dirt/grass shedding capability is second to none! The simplistic design of the wings (used on all crank brother pedals) leaves little spaces for crud to accumulate and affect clipping in/out.
