The streamlined Arc'teryx Beta AR men's pants are lightweight, 4-season pants for the mountain purist. They're a reliable, durable and packable choice.

With a reinforced seat, knees and instep patches, these belted-waist pants are built for rugged use
Made from supple Gore-Tex™ 3L Pro Shell fabric, Beta AR's are completely waterproof and windproof, and they offer excellent breathability
Gore Micro Grid lining is a thin, low-denier, low-density woven fabric that allows the shell to slide easily over midlayers
A reduced number and thickness of seams offers improved abrasion- and snag-resistance, enhanced breathability and decreased weight
Features a watertight, welded front fly and an adjustable nylon webbing belt
Exposed, watertight side zippers stop short of harness/hipbelt area and provide easy access and adjustable venting
Articulated and reinforced seat and knees, plus a gusseted crotch, make the Beta AR pants not just comfortable, but durable as well
Laminated powder cuffs offer good coverage and incorporate gripping elastic and boot-lace hooks
Reinforced Keprotech™ instep patches guard against abrasion
Pants feature a hip stash pocket
Tapered fit with slim construction is engineered for performance

I love the pants. However, I will have to return it because my size is 32-33 waist and 30 length. The short version is 28.5 in length and the regular version is 30.5! I will have to look for another brand!

Like all Arc Teryx products, this one is tough as nails. Reinforcement where needed but still light weight enough to take with you on hikes. The side zippers are great to vent off a little extra heat. If needed, there is room underneath for some extra layers for warmth.

Overall a great pair of pants to take when hiking in the wind or when weather is threatening.

I had been looking for a great lower outer layer for more than 6 months and was able to stop looking once I found the Beta AR. I am 6'5" tall, so the regular inseam was not going to work for me. REI kindly special ordered the pants in a tall size and they are perfect.

These pants are well-conceived. The full zip allows me to put them on over my boots, which is a must for an outer layer. I can wear these comfortably over an inner layer or two, without sacrificing any mobility. I also like the built-in inner gaiter. These pants kept me nice and dry in the elements.

The only thing that doesn't work great with these pants is glissading. They had a major tendency to ride up and give me a wedgie. A universal risk of the glissade, I suppose. In any event, I expect to be climbing in these pants for quite some time.

Looked at other waterproof trou, but at the price guessed this was the best. Gaiter cuffs, reinforced instep, secure seems, and double fabric butt and knees, perfect! I am in the vineyard and these will be perfect this winter, rain beads off and plenty strong. Paired with Asolo boots I am looking forward to winter!!!!!!!!!!

Since I have many Arc Teryx products, I was not at all surprised in the quality, fit and performance of these pants. Because I do many activities that may encounter wet conditions, these are now my first line of defense against inclimate weather.
I also am going to explore the practical use of them on the slope. Though a shell with little protection from cold weather, there is enough room for heavy insulated base layers and given there are pretty durable leg guards, these may in fact suffice for that activity.
Spend the money once and enjoy for years to come. Why waste your time with inferior products that don't have the Iron Clad guarantee that Arc Terxy offers. My Arc products last for years and how many other garments would I have gone through already if I had not chosen the best name in the industry.
