Comments about Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack:
I bought this product to use as my carry on for a recent trip to Egypt. It was excellent for this purpose and I'll certainly use it again for international travel.
Specific pros:
- Detachabel pack useful for flexability.
- Appreciated being able to hid backpack straps when not needed.
- Compression straps are handy for keeping contents tight.
Specific con:
- With heavier weight the frame and backpack straps are inadequate and become paintful over 3+ hours

Comments about Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack:
I used this pack for a 2 week trip around Greece. I really wanted something that I could carry on the flights...this was not the pack for use as a carry on only. I was able to carry on from Boise to Athens, (after some serious sweet talking to the dude at the counter), but had to check the back on the way back home. Don't expect to use this as a carry on if you have it packed full.
Our trip consisted of renting a car and driving around Greece in 2 weeks. The pack worked perfectly for this which included a hike up to the top of Mount Olympus. Obviously, in the car it was fine...fit in the back seat as well as any other bag would. The pack proved itself when we hiked Olympus. I unloaded all the unnecessary clothes and stuff and filled it back up with cameras, tripods and all that junk. We hiked up to the refuge with comfort. In the morning, I threw my necessities into the zip off day pack and headed to the top of the mountain.
The full pack is very comfortable even when packed totally full. The day pack is about the perfect size for a half day hike or other excursion. The extra straps worked great for strapping my camera tripod onto the bottom.
I guess my only complaint is that it didn't work as well as I'd hoped as a carry on. I suppose it'd been nice if it had a little bit more rigidity in the suspension as well.
I'm off to Thailand for 3 weeks in January and I'm thinking about trying the REI Vagabond 40. Smaller, but all I'll be carrying is some climbing gear, a t-shirt, and camera stuff. We'll see.

so excited about this pack! im taking it to south america for 4 months+ the day pack that zips onto the front of this will be very useful. and it also allows you to clip it to the front of your body so you can have all your important belongings in front of you. cant say enough about this pack. bought an rei 40L and returned it as it wasn't going to be large enough. buy this!

Comments about Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack:
I used this bag for a 3 week trip to mexico. I wanted to travel carry-on only, have enough space for souvenirs and was planning to have a day-pack. I worried that it wouldn't be accepted as a carry on, but had no problems even though it is over the hight limit due to the internal frame.
The combination of a zip-off daypack is what sold me on this design, but in hindsight I rarely needed to keep them zipped together. The Farpoint is comfortable to wear but keeps you a little off-balance if you put too much heavy stuff in the day pack area.
I really would recommend this pack, the design is very well thought out and feature packed however — think very carefully if you already have a favorite day pack that could just hide inside of another carry-on since that is the major selling feature of this design.
Over-all: Great quality, comfort and feature-set.

Comments about Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack:
This may be the perfect travel pack. I was looking for something that was versatile enough to use for all trips, including those that require air travel. I avoid checking bags at all costs (it's not worth the hassle or the $$$), so I wanted something that could hold a fair amount of gear and yet still be used as a carry-on. This was my primary question/concern when looking at this pack, and so my review will mainly focus on the carry-on aspect of this pack. This travel system is essentially two packs in one. The smaller detachable daypack is perfect as your 'under seat' carry-on, while the larger pack fits just fine in the overhead compartment (at least on the 737 I was traveling on). WARNING: The dimensions of this pack are NOT carry-on compliant! That being said, I did not receive a second look when boarding the plane, and as stated before the large pack fits just fine in the overhead compartment (I have the M/L version). I would be very surprised if an airline forced you to check this bag. In all honesty, this bag looks smaller and fits better in the overhead compartment than 50% of the wheeled carry-ons that most people use. Tip: Attach the smaller pack to your chest using the included clips - it will make the larger pack seem not quite so large :-)I don't need to get into the details about the storage options and functionality of this travel system (see the product description and visit the Osprey website). It works as advertised, is built well, looks good, and is comfortable even with heavy loads. My only [minor] gripe is that the smaller daypack is pretty small sitting on my back (but to be fair, I am a BIG guy).

Comments about Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack:
Great travel pack. Very comfortable fully loaded. Surprising capacity--even day pack. Easy storage in airplane overhead and even fit in overhead of small prop plane when small carry-on had to be checked. The "TSA Pouch" on day pack is great for quickly accessing liquids for airport screenings. Only complaint is that there is no real water bottle pouch. S-clip solved problem.
