Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
I was looking for a new ski jacket when I came across Marmot's Vertical Shell. I wanted a softshell with all the pockets and a powder skirt. Bam! It looks cool. Fits great. Easy for my friends to spot me on the slopes. Easily accessible pockets for everythiing I need to carry outside of a backpack. Still need to layer on chillier days but that's a given, and after skiing it's a great jacket to wear around town. Check it out.

Love this jacket. Soft inside and it is a tiny bit stretchy, making it more versatile.

Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
Just what I was looking for. Top quality material, nice details and finish. Long enough to cover shirt tails when they are worn outside, but not long enough to interfere with sitting. Hood zipper receiver on jacket tucks away nicely so its not exposed when hood is removed. Sleeves feel just a little long, but I may be happy with that when I get around to using it skiing (in not-too-cold weather). Although very lightweight, I feel warm enough using it with a good long sleeve shirt down into freezing conditions. My first jacket with pit-zips, seems to help keep things drier while staying reasonably warm during light exercise. I also have a heavy-weight Marmot jacket I've had for over a decade and it has help up extraordinarily well.

This was a gift and he loved it! I am not sure how warm he was without layers though!

Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
Overall the jacket is fantastic. It repels water and wind as much as you could hope that a 4-way stretchy polyester material could. It is super comfortable in both mild and extreme conditions. The pit zips come in handy in milder weather, or when looking to cool off after a burst of activity. It has pockets in all of the right places, and the removable storm hood is a nice touch. I have just one main complaint about the jacket. There are snaps on each side to fasten the snow skirt to when not in use. The snow skirt zips out for when not in use, so i'm not sure what the snaps really add. When the snow skirt is zipped into place but not fastened together in front, it doesn't seem to get in the way. Another downfall to these snaps is the backsides of both of them are in each of the front pockets. Every time you put glove-less hands in the pockets you feel these two freezing cold pieces of metal touching you. Do away with the auxiliary snaps.

If you have longer arms, I believe this is a great jacket. I wear a 34" sleeve length but this jacket was too long for me. Otherwise, I really like this jacket's features.

Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
I bought this last minute for a ski trip. Temp range was in the low teens in the mornings to low 30's in the afternoons. I work a heavyweight polartec baselayer with a lightweight full zip fleece mid-layer and this jacket and was almost too warm in the morning making the arm-pit vents very usefull. Afternoons with the base layer and this jacket were perfect. Water and wind resistance is excellent. Fit wise, I'm 5'10", about 165lbs and medium build. Even with all the layers, I still had plenty of room and good mobility. Overall I'm VERY satisfied with the performance, particularly since I did not have a lot of time to research or comparison shop.

Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
Great jacket. I returned a North Face APEX Bionic to get this Marmot. Better fit than the Bionic and way more features for close to the same weight. The Vertical was designed for more snow sports with the removable snow skirt but I use this jacket for same mulitsport stuff and casual wear that I did with theBionic. The pit zips are great as well as the added pockets. Very durable almost perfect all weather jacket. Though it's just a tad to heavy to wear in the spring and Summer when it gets cool in the am and pm here on the coast. Probably going to also purchase the Patagonia Simple Guide for the summer.

Comments about Marmot Vertical Shell Jacket - Men's:
I have owned several Marmot jackets and thought this one would be an ideal replacement for my aging Sharp Point jacket. It had almost everything, but in the end, a few things made me return it. This is a very well made jacket and has several great features. However, two things were not ideal: 1 - the chest seemed to be a bit too large, when compared to their older jackets. And 2- the velcro wrist closures were in a terrible spot, such that they fold over underneath the wrist (as opposed to on top, where it would not be in the way). REI does wrist closures right. Marmot did not. If you look at the photo, the wrist closures look right, but when you watch the video, you will see what I mean. This may not be a big deal to you, but I could feel this annoying fold every time I wore the jacket, and after a week, it went back. I hope this helps you with your jacket search.
