Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

Fits securely to my PFD and pops out easily by squeezing two levers together. It is a little more difficult to get it back in the sheath again but it isn't hard and being able to get it out quickly is what I am worried about anyway. The serrated edges are great for slicing though rope and straps, but I wouldn't find much use for it outside of boating.

Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

My brother-in-law collects knives and I came across this item at the REI store and thought it would be something he would like. I was right...not only did it have a certain cool factor, it also exhibited features of a multi tool that you dont have to open (a feature that he mentioned). He talked about it all evening and even started figuring out how he can utilize this tool on his farm. It has what appears to be a belt clip, but it was too tight for a leather belt, but a web/friction belt would be perfect. I believe it would fit and hang well on some loops found on a backpack as it is designed to attach to a PFD. Pretty cool Knife!!!

Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

A light honing on the blade, especially the serrations, and it will cut a 3/8" rope like a hot knife through butter.
It will rust if it gets wet, so keep it oiled or greased.
It will sink if it falls in the water....

Mine popped out of its holster sometime last weekend on Kentucky Lake.

I liked it enough that I'll buy another one my next trip to REI, but I'll have to come up with a lanyard or something.

This is a great knife! It's very solid thought i'd use it for kayaking. It has a great plastic holder that will clip to a pfd. very sharp right out of the box. If only it could be made in u.s.a.

Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

Needed a small, sharp knife for my rescue vest. Clips on the lash tab, is readily available, not in the way. Very sharp with blunt tip so that it will not puncture an inflatable kayak or cataraft. I own the new Benchmade water rescue knife, but this one is the right price in case it gets dropped! Yellow one is easer to see and to find.

Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

While I think the knife design is bullet proof, I wish the blade was slightly longer. I attached the sheath on my PFD (Astral V-eight) around a year ago and have not had a problem with the knife staying snapped in. I paddle 3-6 days per week on the Mississippi river and have used it once in a rescue situation. The only problem I had with the sheath is getting the knife back in and secure after I used it during the rescue. I had forseen this issue when practicing with the knife and tethered it to my PFD with elastic shockcord. This allowed me to drop the knife without losing it until I had time to ensure it was snapped in securely. Immediately after this incident my paddling partner bought the same knife.

Comments about NRS Co-Pilot River Knife:

The knife itself is nicely designed with well thought out features. It's very solid and functional. The problem is with the "sheath." Instead of fitting inside a sheath, the knife clips onto a sort of holder that prevents the blade from being exposed when the knife isn't in use. The knife doesn't stay in the holder very well, and it can fall out. I ended up having to keep it in a pocket in my PFD instead of wearing it on the outside where it would be most convenient. I may try to alter an old sheath from another knife to fit this one. I recommend the knife, but not the odd, poorly designed sheath.
