Comments about Patagonia Capilene 3 Long Underwear Bottoms - Men's:
The new slim fit version doesn't fit me as well as the previous one. I'm 5'5" with 34" waist and strong legs from hiking. I used to be able to fit the small bottoms well, but they are now too snug around the waist. The medium fits the waist fine, but now they are too long for me. If you're shorter and have stronger legs and gluteal muscles, it will be hard to find a good fit.

Comments about Patagonia Capilene 3 Long Underwear Bottoms - Men's:
We've been doing some cool weather hiking lately and my silks just weren't overcoming the near freezing temps outside. I did an online chat with the REI folks and they recommended these as a bottom base layer. I was concerned about chafing, but they told me that, if these chafed, just return them for a refund. REI is the best!
The first time I hiked with them, I was sold. They do not chafe, even at a very brisk pace, and they keep me warm. Exactly what I wanted, exactly what they promised.

Comments about Patagonia Capilene 3 Long Underwear Bottoms - Men's:
These have worked well for me as a downhill skiing base layer and for cool weather hiking. If it's just these and a pair of pants, they can be chilly. If you're wearing these in the winter, you'll probably want to stay active.
The fitting for these is not very forgiving and they're made for a slimmer fit. My weight tends to move around quite a bit (150-180lbs) @ 5'8". I now own a pair of Smartwool long underwear pants -- they are *much* more forgiving than the Capilene 3, and they're significantly warmer, but only slightly thicker.

Comments about Patagonia Capilene 3 Long Underwear Bottoms - Men's:
I mainly use them as underwear to keep warm, whether at work (it's COLD in my building!) or when I'm skiing/snowboarding (it does help immensely).

Comments about Patagonia Capilene 3 Long Underwear Bottoms - Men's:
I have several pairs of these (tops and bottoms) and have found the material to be very tempermental in the washer. It does say on the tag to not use fabric softener, however I have to use the washer and dryer in a common area which others love to use the stuff all the time. Even though I do not use it... the inside of the dryer has enough residual amounts to cause problems with this fabric. The 2 sets of large that I have progressively get bigger and bigger and have lost the nice form fitting shape and are very baggy now. I just bought a pair of Mediums and can hardly even get them on let alone make high leg movements. The mediums are also extremely short (I am not even tall). This fabic from Patagonia is of inferior quality and it seems they are more concerned with the fact that it is recycled than of the performance I need. I will stick with wool products from Icebreaker or Smartwool (much truer fit and WAY better flexability) as Patagonia is not near the quaility they were 15 years ago.

I just used this on a hike with 20 degree weather and it kept me warm. I was not hot nor cold, I was comfortable while hiking for 4 hours. It's very comfortable and fits very well.
