Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Tracer 165 Kayak with Skeg:

My first thought when I saw this boat is that its beautiful. The red on white looks like a million bucks.

I bought this for camping on some of the local islands in long island sound and along rivers but I now use it for everything from flat water to the sea.

There is a ton of storage between the deck rigging and dry wells for camping gear or other supplies. Even on the worst days the hatch seals only let a few drops into the wells.

Even in choppy water (2 or 3 foot swells) this boat handles great and inspires confidence.

My only gripe is that the seat can become a little uncomfortable after a few hours. The backrest is great but the bottom cushion just needs a little extra cush. I just added a little extra foam here and there and I can be in it all day.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Tracer 165 Kayak with Skeg:

This boat tracks true and is very stable. It is the perfect weight and width for a female; I am 5'6" 135 pounds. I can easily load and unload this myself and it has plenty of storage room for all my camping gear. I just finished a 43 mile river trip in FL with this boat and love it.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Tracer 165 Kayak with Skeg:

I've paddled around in about a dozen different kayaks and found this one to be one of the most enjoyable ones I've been in. It goes through the flat smooth water like it's motorized and it laughs at the rough stuff. The bulk heads, like I have read in other areas, did leak on me a little but very little. The skeg is amazing on this thing, it works perfectly. I think for the price, it's hard to beat. It does have a narrow beam so if you're not use to that it may seem a little tippy at first but that feeling goes away soon enough. it also, due to its low deck height, has very little weather cocking and if it gets really windy, just add a little more skeg and problem solved.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Tracer 165 Kayak with Skeg:

I have paddled this kayak on lakes and rivers and absolutely love it! I got it as a novice kayaker and although I am not particularly athletic (or youthful), I have found it very easy to paddle and turn. The skeg is very helpful in windy conditions, to keep the boat on track. It floats easily over boat wakes, but I have never had it in the surf. It will go into coves that are only a 3-4 inches deep.

There is plenty of room to carry a backpacking tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, cooking gear, food, personal gear, and clothing for a camping trip if you use compact or backpacking-sized gear. The holds are not absolutely watertight, so use dry bags for things you can't afford to get wet.

Several of my non-kayaking friends have tried out my kayak and most found it to be 'tippy' initially, but had no problems after they took a stroke or two. It is much more efficient than most kayaks out there and is beautiful on the water. My friend, an experienced paddler with a kayak costing twice as much, says this one is great.

As a small woman, I really appreciate that it is light and easy to load on my vehicle. That makes it easy to go out and enjoy the peace on the water.
